AROTC scholarships posted

GoldenLion, was the original update for the first choice school and the additional on the letter for lower choice schools? My DS's status page indicates he has an offer to his second choice school (in-state) but he really wants an offer to his first choice (OOS). Based on your post, I'm not sure if that means that he was passed over by his first choice and therefore waiting for the letter may not help.

Also does anyone know if you can transfer the value of an in-state scholarship to the out-of-state school (assuming there is willingness and room at the OOS). He already has a partial scholarship to the OOS school and would be happy to just get a value equivalent of the in-state scholarship for the OOS.

In the past if the applicant was awarded a 4 year to an In State school they would sometimes transfer the scholarship to an Out of State school by reducing the scholarship to a 3 year. You will probably need to wait and see what type of scholarship was awarded. Things are different this year and they have not been as quick to transfer to more expensive schools but it has happened.

Good Luck

Last year the notifications out of the 3rd Board did not go out in one simultaneous batch. They went out in lots of mini batches over at least two days, possible two and a half.

I got the feeling that there were employees at Cadet Command typing away furiously and every few hours hit the "post" button to update the system.

I think that's exactly right. Last year my son was probably the last person on this forum to see a status change from the 3rd Board, and he was still offered a 4yr to an in-state school or a 3yr AD to an out-of-state school, so I wouldn't worry about not being in the first group who saw changes. It's not over until it's over!

So since notifications started flying out today, there is still 2 1/2 more days to go. Well that does relieve some pressure and anxiety! xD

Your right, there is still time.

Notifications started coming out yesterday, but there is still time.

For DD,

24 Jan...portal changed to show scholarship
30 Jan..portal changed to show school Emory University (a school that was NOT on her list)
4 Feb...letter received showing scholarship to her #1 choice (small, inexpensive private), #2 choice (in state public university), and for Emory University

Again, so don't panic if the portal doesn't have your #1 choice. DD only put two schools on her list.

So ... is it my imagination, or has no one on the forum has posted a scholarship status change today?

Congrats to all who are receiving well-deserved news this week!

DS was one of those receiving notification yesterday afternoon and I just now checked the DoDMERB site and they have just posted the message that says:

Agency: US Army ROTC
Cycle Year:2011
Current Medical Status: Qualified

He had taken the DoDMERB June 2011 for USNA and received the USNA Qualified status last July. So that's how this particular kid's notification process is coming along.

This final board seems to be operating very differently then the past boards. There were status changes yesterday but as of now there have been no posts announcing any updates.

This board the status changes have included a school as well, and so far only one school.

During the past board results, status changes happened throughout the day for about 3 days, not so this time.

I wonder if it's possible that they released everything yesterday at one time and that was it. Maybe these were just an early release of those that were at the top of the list as Clarkson said in a previous post, he did indicate that he thought the results would be out Thursday of this week, maybe that will be the day we see the bulk of awards.

I guess CC is still working out all the issues as the process continues to go through changes.

Good luck to all those still waiting to hear results and conragulations to those who have already heard.

That's great, It's nice to have Domerb out of the way. Now he just needs to start working on those Push Ups, Sit Ups, and running, and enjoy the last months of High School.

Only thing left to do now is sign the letter when it comes and send it back.

By the way, how did it go when he found out about the scholarship.

Back to forum for DS's 2 and 3...twins after a year or so.

DS 1- NROTC sophomore loving school and NROTC. DS 2 received notification of AROTC award yesterday.....still waiting on AROTC info for DS 3. Not a big issue, DS 3 has substantial cross country scholarship. However DS 2 and 3 would like to attend college together.

Fingers crossed!! Congrats to all.

AROTC Scholarship

DS checked the website today and it shows he received a scholarship to Norwich. DS is not too excited about it as he has found another university that's a good fit for him and has decided to reapply to both USMA/USAFA. Norwich hasn't been overly forthcoming with answering the questions DS has asked either. . .so he is not so impressed.

DS has not received the official letter yet so maybe there will be other options for him. ((fingers crossed))

DS Stats:
Noms from both Senator and Congressman
TWE to both USMA and USAFA. TWE for Air force ROTC.
3.78 gpa
33 ACT
dual-enrolled in local community college (4.0 gpa)
captain of the soccer team and cross country team
Numerous awards and club/volunteer participation

Getting the news in southern Ohio

By the way, how did it go when he found out about the scholarship.

Oh my gosh! He was ALMOST as excited as I was – which was pretty over the top – I think I traumatized our 2 ferrets who reside in their ridiculous three story cage – complete with a hammock built for two – that sits next to the computer in our family room! I think it was Brutus (yes, Brutus, as in the Ohio State mascot the Buckeye nut, that’s the name we gave one of our ferrets when my kids presented my husband and I with them as a 29th wedding anniversary present a couple years ago. I didn’t realize the 29th was the Ferret Anniversary!)anyway, yesterday when I saw the status page on the computer my outburst caused Brutus to fall out of his hammock when I yelled OHMYGOSHICAN”TBELIEVEMYEYES!!! I called DS’s phone right away and left the most garbled and loud and incomprehensible message ever and then followed up with a text that had a whole lot of exclamation points!! Well, both the voice mail and the text went unanswered for three hours!!! THREE HOURS!!! His phone was in the car while he was doing some pretty intense yard work for some older lady in town – he and three other guys from his baseball team were “hired” for the afternoon to do some major spring yard clean up. So when he finally got home, he walked in the door to much ado from the younger brothers (the ones with Down syndrome) and his Dad and me! DS had obviously received the message because he had the biggest GRIN on his face – unreal and wonderful and just awesome!! I had left the status page up on the computer and so he ran over to see the words for himself and he kept looking at them and looking at them – the grin growing bigger with each passing second!! I don’t know how that was even physically possible!! Even though his face and hands and clothes were filthy and stinky from the mulch he’d been spreading around, he just seemed to glow through the grime!! We are all so proud of him – the long journeys with the ROTC applications/interviews (NROTC now going into its 12th month) and SA application (now going into the 15th month), DoDMERB stuff, MOC applications and interviews, the 6 university applications – well I’m not telling any of you anything new…all these kids ARE AMAZING to have attempted any of this and followed through and hung in there even as some of their friends found out back when the Christmas trees were just getting put out at the curb in January what their destinations would be come Fall 2012. THEY ALL DESERVE OUR RESPECT AND OUR AWE!!! These kids are so inspiring – God bless them all!!

Sorry to hear about your experience with Norwich.

From everything I've heard Norwich is a terrific school with a great ROTC program, getting a scholarship there is no easy task.

Will your son participate in ROTC at the other university?

Good luck with the re-application process to West Point.

So the thread remains quiet in terms of any more notifications. Should we assume all of the offers have gone out? We have two sons who are in the NROTC program... one being commissioned this June and one is a sophmore. Both are at the Univ. of WA. Our third son applied for an AROTC scholarship but has not heard anything. We are prepared to move forward with option B but are hesitant to put a deposit down until we hear from the third board. His grades were not as strong as his brothers but he would be an amazing officer so we are anxious to have a final answer. Any information about the third board decisions would be appreciated

Maybe give it a little more time because I checked last night around 10 and nothing had happened but found out this morning that I got offered an Army ROTC Scholarship to The Citadel.

Congrats to all who have received scholarship notifications!!!

For those still waiting...Clarkson will usually post when he has been informed that all offers have been posted. Hopefully he will be able to do the same for this board. CC has been different, as noted, for this board's status updates, so perhaps they will be back at it today/tomorrow.

IF you do not receive a scholarship - please remember to focus on Plan B which hopefully includes doing AROTC anyway. DS has grown up a lot this year since being denied a scholarship - AROTC has really contributed to this personal growth!!

Keep the faith - thoughts and prayers out to all of you:thumb:
