AROTC scholarships posted

Chapter 3 of this story

Mail just arrived and AROTC "BFE" was in the mailbox!!!! Of the five schools DS listed on application he has the choice to apply his scholarship to one of four of them!!! All 4 of them are 3year AD! The one not listed was his last choice school - it was his last choice for good reason...its host school is not exactly a "cross town" affiliate - it's an hour's drive away?!! It was an in state school that he was already accepted at and does have an on-campus NROTC unit (DS still awaiting word on NROTC-Navy option - that's kind of off-topic here...). Anyway, that's Chapter 3 of AROTC here in southern Ohio!!

Wow, your good news just keeps comming, congratulations to your son.

4 schools, that's amazing, he has the opportunity to make a selection that works best for him.

My son last year had 5 to choose from, our dining room table had 5 separate stacks, one for each school, he slowly reduced the number to 2. After visiting a couple of the schools again and one trip cross country he finally made his decision a couple days before the deadline. It was nice to get the table back.

What were the other 2 schools.

Thanks Jcleppe!!! I know what you mean with the volcano of file folders on the table!!! Crazy!!! The other two schools are University of Cincinnati and Eastern Michigan University (they grant in state tuition for Ohio residents). Still can't get feet back on ground quite yet!!!

Your the first one to post they have received the official letter, I would assume others will post soon as well.

Does he have a strong idea of where he wants to go yet.

Since it looks like the oficial letters have gone out I wonder if thats it for this board. I hope that's not the case since it seems so few were reproted by those that post here.

Enjoy the excitement and celebrate a bit this weekend.

Anyone think that there will be status changes on Monday - or is it pretty much done?

still hoping

I sure hope so that it's not over yet, haven't heard anything or the status has not change since October :) Hopefully this coming week...

At least at the school in question, about 80% of the applicants are able to swear in as cadets via the SMP route at the beginning of their freshman year.

You cannot contract as a freshman in Army ROTC, unless it is in conjunction with a scholarship.

The DS was reeling from the TWE from USNA last week. DS was accepted to Carlson School at University of MN which is pretty tough to get into and a great plan B. He knew that applying to a business school and not a engineering major would hurt his chances with AROTC but he loved the program and facilities at Carlson (can't blame him I am hiding in his backpack for some of the classes).

Lo and behold he checked his email today and he had a note from Army ROTC congratulating him on a scholarship. We are awaiting a BFE from them to see the details.

He was bummed having seen some less qualified guys from summer seminar get in at the Academies (geography is tough) but this combo of business school and ROTC really put him in orbit.

Proud Dad.

Scholarship letter arrived yesterday ..... 3yr AD to all the schools listed on the app: VATech, William & Mary, Bucknell and UMD (Thought she applied for only one). Only VATech was listed on the Scholarship status portal on-line. Now to figure out what to do .....

Good luck to everyone else waiting out there! What a year ......

WOW! Congratulations to your daughter! What a great position to be in. Hoping we get the letter tomorrow and are as happy as you all are tomorrow night. Portal only notified my son of one school, so your news gives us hope that we may see the other choices in the letter.

Again, congratulations!! :thumb:

status website came back up with no change in my application's status. what does this mean?

I would give it a couple more days, CC doesn't update over the weekend. Some have posted that they have received their oficial letters, no way to tell if that means the offers have ended.

Good Luck

So interesting to read these posts! Our DS received only one school on his portal and letter even though he had written down several. We are so happy with the decision. Just got back from open house at Cal Poly SLO and were pleasantly pleased with the school and the ROTC program. The ROO was so kind and helpful with all the questions we had to ask. Many of the questions we asked on here were repeated from the ROO. DS is pumped!!

The scholarship status page has been updated and I've confirmed with the school I was awarded the scholarship to the Citadel. Is there an estimated time I should be notified by DODMERB? And do I need to wait until the letter makes it to accept the scholarship?

Respectfully,

P.P.

Until you see the offer letter the offer isn't official, so you cant accept it until you get the letter...what's your hurry. You have until December 15 to sign that contract and still get paid (if it's a 4 year scholarship). I'm sure you don't want to wait till then, but it can be done. Same with DODMERB. unless there is an issue you should be DODMERB Q in the next couple months. If there is an issue you have until December 15th to rebut the DODMERB DQ or request the waiver. Hopefully you and your new Battalion will get it resolved before then. Sit back relax and wait for the offer letter, it will be there any day now.

Have you requested a waiver, or are you just assuming that it will be acted upon automatically? Now that you are UK property I would contact their ROO and see what they can do to help you facilitate your waiver request. That ROO should have the ability to check on the status, and make sure your waiver is being considered. Remember waivers aren't automatic, and if you received a 3AD instead of a 4 year UK may not be in a big hurry to resolve your DODMERB since you won't contract till 2013. i know I'll be checking on the status of all my scholarship winners in about 4 weeks, once the school year and commissioning are over with and I can shift fire to the incoming freshman class.

So does anybody know if all of the scholarships offers have been given out? I am still waiting, and would like to know if I should just go ahead and accept offer that University gave me.

That is a tough question.

Up to now Clarkson has always posted when he saw that the offers had ended, even he was surprised to see offers coming out long after the last Jan. Board ended.

Since Clarkson has not said one way or the other I would hold tight as long as you can to see how this board plays out. Some who have received offers from this board have already received their letters, that used to mean things were pretty much over, this year I think it's hard to tell.

Best thing you can do is keep in contact with the ROO at your No. 1 choice school and see if he/she can give you any updates or information.

Good luck.

Got the letter. Unfortunately, it was still just the # 2 school, 3YR AD. DS in the process of writing an email to the #1 school ROO and attaching the acceptance letter to that school and the scholarship notification letter from the Army. Applying to the number 2 school is not an option since DS applied to #1 school as an Early Decision since he was recruited for lacrosse. Not sure what will happen now. My assumption is that there must have been a lot of in state scholarships given at CNU and there is no slot left for an out of state kid. Heartbroken if this is the case. We will see. Hopefully we will hear back soon, but haven't gotten much response from them in the past inquiries.

Hoping for the best!
