DS is hoping to attend VMI in the fall. He has been accepted and is completing the paperwork to secure his spot. He is also waiting on the 3rd board for the AROTC scholarship decisions.

He wants to speak with a contact at VMI as he has a couple questions and to touch base. I read on here they should speak with the ROO officer, but when he did the overnight it was the AROTC Dept head and others within the dept that spoke to parents and potential cadets.

So, should he contact the ROO officer or Dept Head? Is email ok ( he is gone from 6:45am - 5:30pm every day) or is it better to call? The school may let him call during study block, and he has a few minutes between school and practice.

Any questions you would suggest that maybe we have not thought of?
Is it ok to ask how many scholarship slots they have? Or is that a no-no?

Thanks in advance.

I would start with an e-mail to the ROO. Maybe that could lead to an appointment where they could speak by telephone. If by dept. head you mean the PMS, I wouldn't start with him/her. I think most questions you have could be answered by ROO.

Keep in mind that schools like VMI (Senior Military Colleges) operate a little differently. That being said, when I googled VMI army rotc and clicked on the VMI Army ROTC Home the first POC on the left hand side is the ROO, so I'm betting he's your guy.

Thanks. Will have DS start there. He asked some at the overnight, but of course you always think of more after the fact!
