AROTC Second Board, Boarded?

My sons status has changed back to Boarded. I am hoping it is not a bad sign. He is pretty bummed about it.

My son has the same update, but got phone call from the battalion that he got the 3 year. Tell him to chin up and have patience.

Another ROTC program breaks the rules. Notifications are not authorized yet as the results are not official. They are going through a scrub now.

Do you happen to know if results will be out this week or next week?

DS portal was just updated to WINNER this afternoon... He was awarded a 3 year scholarship...

No, it changed to "winner" about 5 minutes after I posted this.

I didn't get a scholarship this time but maybe my luck will be better the next board! Does anyone know if you can upload a new PFT after your application has already been reviewed by the board once?

DS still has the yellow box “Under Consideration”, even this afternoon. Do they definitely go thru all those that are board ready and assign them a score? Is there a chance his application wasn’t boarded yet? It’s hard enough to deal with the stress that winners are getting portal changes & phone calls, so I feel terrible if he didn’t even get boarded after working so hard to get it all in by a set date. I’ll try to be patient and wait bc maybe the system is still updating ( cross fingers). Congrats to those have heard!!

I had looked at mine, and have the same notification which states I was not selected. Oh well, maybe I'll have better luck next time.

My application still has the "Boarded/Under Consideration" status but if you scroll down, the description of your status may have changed. Mine changed to "This applicant's packet has been reviewed and scored by either the OCT 17 or JAN 18 Selection Boards, but were not selected. This applicant remains eligible for our final Selection Board scheduled to convene 19 MAR 18"

Many are posting that their status changed to winner and they have school choices. Should those that have not been changed to winner but are boarded/under consideration take that to mean that they are done until March? Or keep waiting through the next two weeks?

You have most likely been rolled over to the 3rd Board. For the past couple years Cadet Command has released all the results in a single update. A while ago it used to take a few days for all the notifications to be posted, that does not seem to be the case anymore.

If your status said"Boarded Under Consideration" then you were looked at on this board and placed on the OML. If your status has not been changed to Winner then you have most likely been rolled over to the 3rd Board.

One thing to keep in mind about the AROTC Scholarship process.

1) A smaller percentage of applicants actually have everything turned in and are board ready for the 1st AROTC Board. The 1st Board selects a very small number in comparison of scholarship winners, so there are many that are rolled over to the 2nd Board.

2) There are a much larger number of applicants that finish everything and are ready for the 2nd Board. So, all the new applicants are thrown in with all the applicants that were rolled over from the 1st Board and a new OML is made. It's not unusual for someone that may have been higher on the OML after the 1st Board to slip farther down the OML because of all the new applicants that have been added from the 2nd Board.

3) There are far fewer new applicants that are only ready and boarded for the 3rd Board, so there are fewer added to the OML that was rolled over from the 2nd Board. This means that those applicants that were rolled over from the 2nd board may not slide down the OML nearly as far due to the fewer number of applicants added.

4) This is why some may be surprised that they did not receive a scholarship on the 2nd board because they felt that they had a competitive packet. The fact is that you probably did have a competitive packet but it's simply a numbers game. With the large number of applicants that are typically added to the 2nd board, all as equally competitive, it's not hard to see how some with good stats fall below the cutoff for the 2nd board. I would imagine that the difference between packet scores are pretty small so just a point or two can drop you down farther then you think.

My main point is this, don't get caught up on comparing stats with others, most here are all close in competitiveness. The next board will have fewer new applicants and they will give out the same if not a few more scholarships then the 2nd Board. Hang in there, the wait is tough but worth it, just make sure you have a Plan B and even a Plan C in place.

This is the first of many OML's you'll go through as an AROTC cadet and as an Officer, and they are all equally hard to wait for the outcome. This is something you'll need to get used to for your own sanity.

Best of luck to you all.

My son finally got home and checked the portal. He was a winner. Has a 4 year scholarship to Penn State, Temple or Pitt. He still is waiting to hear from Pitt weather he got in or not. These are his three choices anyway, so now its a tough choice.

@Jcleppe- thank you for the great breakdown. DS was not selected this round, but hopefully he’ll hear in March. Congrats to those who heard good news today on 3year and 4 year!

Also keep in mind ROTC is just a backup plan for some kids shooting for academies. Some of these slots may open up in the late summer and scholarships will be awarded at the unit level in the fall. With thre Army offering $5,000 bonuses to sophomores who join ROTC and the fact they are trying to increase the number of enlisted by 80k they are clearly in need of jr officers.

Results are official now.

Still have "Boarded/Under Consideration" on DD's portal?

Looks like I found the answer, they updated the description for the "Boarded/Under Consideration" description instead of flipping it back to just "Boarded".

Boarded/Under Consideration: This applicant's packet has been reviewed and scored by either The OCT 17 or JAN 18 Selection Boards, but were not selected. These applicant remain eligible for our final Selection Board scheduled to convene 19 MAR 18.

@MohawkArmyROTC can you release the number of scholarships awarded for the 2nd board yet? Any clue how many total will be awarded for the year?

I don't know how many were offered this board yet. Based on the briefing I got in DEC, there supposed to be 1000x 4YR, 2000x 3YR and a couple hundred 2YR MJC scholarships in total.
