While researching information about the AROTC three-year scholarship, I found many sources stating how the scholarship starts your Sophomore year of college or even during your second semester after you have displayed exceptional characteristics. If one were to have enough AP credits due to their successful AP testing during their high school career and enter college as a Sophomore, how would the scholarship be affected? Will the scholarship initiate immediately or would the person have to wait for one year until he/she can use the scholarship?

Also, congratulations to everyone who has received an ROTC Scholarship! As for those who have not yet, keep your head up and don't lose faith!

I'm sure there are exceptions but it usually kicks in the start of your second year of college. AROTC is planning on your being in college for all 4 years and the program is laid out that way. You might discuss this with the cadre at your unit to see if there is a path to complete the program in 3 years and have the scholarship kick in right away, but I'm not at all convinced that's doable. If nothing else it might be a 'color of money' issue (as in what bucket of money does it come from?)

The scholarship requires you to attend school for 4 years. The school may consider you a sophomore, but we are going to expect you to be enrolled for 4 years, so we can train you. In most cases you will not be allowed to skip a year. If you have a three year you need to figure out how you are going to cover the first year. Getting a 75%+ discount on your college should be a no brainer, but I understand some applicants have financial challenges. Make sure you are talking to your school of choice’s financial aid folks to see how they can help you pay for that first year. T
