I have just submitted a transfer for my 4 year army scholarship because I was not accepted to the school I had designated the scholarship. Does anyone know how long it typically takes to receive a decision?

I suspect it won’t be before the end of the month, after the third board results are released.

I think it can vary widely. My DD applied for a transfer as soon as possible but we had to play the waiting game well into the summer before hearing for sure. In fact, she had to pay her initial non-refundable deposit to the school she was transferring into before she knew it had gone through. She had no intentions of going to that school unless she had the ROTC scholarship transfer so she would have lost that money if it didn't go through and she didn't yet have a solid 'Plan B' so it was a bit stressful.

After being accepted into the honors college at one of the schools my DS had applied to, he decided he wanted to transfer his scholarship to that school. He did the transfer request through the portal which just involved submitting a statement as to why you wanted to transfer the scholarship and then a copy of your acceptance to that school. He also emailed the officer directly at the university he was trying to transfer the scholarship to and explained that he had initiated the transfer and would appreciate any assistance they could provide. Literally, the next morning he had received a response from the school saying as long as he was accepted that it would not be a problem and then about an hour letter he got an email from ROTC approving the transfer and letting him know that his portal had been updated to reflect it. Maybe he just got lucky, but it was certainly a relief, as we had heard it could take some time to process. My point is that I think it is smart to communicate directly with the school you want to transfer the scholarship to in addition to going through the portal because it may help speed the process along. Hope that helps. From what I have read on this forum, if at all possible, they do try to accommodate scholarship recipients. Best of Luck to all.

The music to my ears is how you related that "he did the transfer request, and he called and he heard back and he emailed (as opposed to mom/dad).

Well done and congratulations!
