AROTC Waiver(s) Required

Hi everyone, I have searched the board and have not seen this issue posted, so apologies if this is a repeat question. My daughter’s Army ROTC Scholarship Application Selection Status is pending due to test scores (960 SAT). According to the website waiver section: “GPA, ACT and/or SAT waivers will not be considered until after January 31st. You must retake applicable tests in an attempt to improve your ACT/SAT scores and/or improve your GPA.” My question is does she at least have a chance of receiving a test score waiver? Regardless if she does or not, her plans are to enroll in ROTC classes in the Fall. Thanks.
 
Is she a high school applicant or is she in college and already in college AROTC?
 
Whether or not she would get a waiver depends on a zillion things you didn't mention. Academics in school, leadership, athletics, volunteer activities. Even with that info, no one here could really say anyway... at best you'd get an opinion. Keep working plans B, C, D... Good luck to your DD.
 
She is not going to receive a waiver for SAT scores. The only way she might get a waiver is if a Battalion would have an “extra scholarship” and your daughter is the only inbound freshman who has expressed interest. That would happen after the National process is over. Your best bet is plan to start school without a scholarship. Let the ROTC program at the school she will attend know she’s coming and let them know she’s interested in competing for a campus based scholarship.
 
Thanks for all the input. My DD is in the top 15% of her high school graduating class, 3.6 GPA, lettered in basketball, first chair alto saxophone in the band, 4-years Army JROTC S-1 Cadet Captain, numerous hours community service: Habitat for Humanity, drill team for local VETS events and the Invictus Games.


We have made preparations for her to start without a scholarship (she will be using my GI Bill). She is very motivated, much more than I was at her age so I’m sure regardless of the national board results she will earn a spot once at her HBCU. Thanks again for your guidance.

Are you sure she won't get a waiver for this when applying specifically for an ROTC scholarship to a Historically Black College or University? I would think this could still be a possibility.
 
I don’t know of any process to submit a waiver request for a high school applicant. The request for SAT waiver usually goes from Cadet to Program to Brigade to Cadet Command. If she is committed to a school already you should ask the ROO about submitting the waiver. Seriously doubt it will help at this point. Time is running out. And whether she gets the waiver or not she is going to be dinged multiple times for that low score (PMS interview, board score, SAT score). If the school likes her and is willing to overlook the test score they will likely be the source of any waiver/scholarship offer.
