AROTC "winners"

If ours still says "Boarded," have we not made it?

I believe in past years the portal was updated over the course of a couple of days for scholarship winners. If not, you will be considered for subsequent boards.

You are in the game until notified otherwise. They are going to pull the higher scored off the list and award them now. Rest stay in place until subsequent boards when more get scored and added to the list. I suspect they repeat the process until all available scholarships are awarded.

I am in the same position. 32 ACT and perfect interview (I think). Still says "boarded." Its safe to say I am going to be biting my nails until I know for sure.

Grrrr....same with my DS account. Boarded but no movement. Will let the day play out and I suspect come tomorrow we'll know for sure (either an award or next board review..

Does my edited post still show, with my SAT scores? Strange.

Anyhow, now that I'm talking to someone who isn't me, I think you will get it within the next few days. But I have a calc test tomorrow and I'm very distracted, frankly. The ROO said she would be "shocked" if I didn't get it. But still I haven't got it! With my luck, this is exactly the type of thing that would happen. :thumb:

Last year Cadet Command waited until they had all the letters ready to send and did a one time blast to the status pages with the results. In previous years it took a couple days to post all the results. It's anyone's guess how they are doing it this year, if nobody posts a change in status by tomorrow afternoon then you are most likely rolled over to the next board.

Awards from the first board are a fickle thing. When my younger son applied he had a 3.5 GPA and a 24 ACT, most of the ROO's told him if he received a scholarship it would probably be from the third board. He received the scholarship to 5 schools on the first board much too his and everyone's surprise. While his test scores were low, his leadership, EC's, and Athletics were off the charts, this is what they figured got him his selection on the first board. A high test score and academics are not always the deciding factor in which board you may be selected, school choices have a big impact as well.

Things open up a lot more in the next two boards so if your not selected don't lose hope and always have a Plan B, C, and D in your hip pocket.

What do you mean that they have a big impact? I chose really, really selective schools for my top 3. Schools with less than 10% acceptance rates. What does that mean?

Status changed to winner! 4 year scholarship to 1)Oklahoma State 2)Oklahoma or 3) TCU

A lot depends on how competitive the ROTC program and how many applicants listed the same schools. How many slots the school has for scholarship cadets. How expensive the schools are, most scholarship awarded by the first board are 4 year, if a school is very expensive they may want to award 3 year and those usually come on the second and third boards.

Have you been accepted to any of these schools, they may decide to wait and see if you change your school list should you not be accepted to these schools.

If the schools you listed are so selective that they only admit 10% then you are competing against other applicants that have similar or stronger stats then you. While you may have a 32 ACT, there may be a few others with even higher scores and if they only give one scholarship to that school on the first board it may go to them.

When you listing these type of schools then it can be a real puzzle to know how they make the first board selections.

On the other hand, an applicant that has an above average application that lists schools that are not as competitive in ROTC or admissions may have a better shot at a first board scholarship.

The process is confusing and not very transparent so there is always a lot of head scratching when the awards start coming out.

Don't know about OU or Ok. St. but TCU kicks in $10K of room and board if you have either a 27 on the ACT or 1300 (M+V) on the SAT. Congrats

DS just looked and has been awarded the 4-year scholarship to his top 3 schools. All of them are private schools that offer free room and board to scholarship winners. I agree with everybody else here in that you can't always figure out who will be first to get the scholarships. We were surprised that our DD, last year, did not get her Army ROTC Scholarship until the last board and she had slightly higher stats than our son has. She was also awarded 4 year scholarships to 3 schools, though, but they were here 1st, 3rd and 4th choice schools -1 private, 1 out of state public and 1 in-state public. Both of them got their NROTC scholarships awarded very early.

What were his stats, if I may ask?

Could all the awardees please post the first letter of their last name? Perhaps they're going alphabetically so far.
