Article-Minorities Underrepresented in Nominations

I’m Appalachian-American. We even have our own language.

When I was younger we were considered educational minorities because we were born in Appalachia. A few mtn counties in most Eastern States and all of WV. I dont know if that category still exists, or remember what specifically it opened up for us, regarding scholarships or the like.

yes, we are poor people.

Is it not important that our officer population be representative of our enlisted population?
one would think we're all green/blue/whatever and as i said as long as the service schools meet their numbers the rest is just making sausage

yes, we are poor people.
I like what Ralphie May had to say about color. ‘There was no black or white or brown, we were one color “poor”’. Obviously paraphrasing here. However I think his point is absolutely valid. The disparity in opportunity has far more to do with affluence than it does race.

My Dad was from Lyon. About 2 hours south of Dijon. They are at similar elevations and have pretty mild winters, like Indiana or Ohio in the U.S.

What gave me away the ‘The Token Brit’?
Your seeming unfamiliarity with the use of "Anglo Saxon" in the American context. I grew up in a time and place where "White Anglo Saxon Protestant" was a consequential identifier.

SAF hasn't put you to the test of residual "Britishness" with questions like:

-At what temperature do you drink your beer?
-Do you still say loo?
-If you were vaccinated, did you receive a shot or a jab?
-In Winter, do you wear a sweater or a pullover under your Barbour Jacket.
-Do you ever leave the house without an umbrella?

I drink beer cold, it’s a complete fallacy that a Brits drink warm beer.

I received a jab when I was vaccinated.

In winter I wear a gansey and don’t own a Barbour jacket

I don’t even own an umbrella.

Regarding the usage of Anglo Saxon it was in reference to the fact that outside of the US it’s extremely uncommon for people to hyphenate their origins. The fact that the US used the term Anglo Saxon far more than the UK proves the point.
