Currently, I am doolie at USAFA (class of 2023). I was a former preppy and recognition is a week away. Ask me anything! This year has been a culture change for all of USAFA.

Well training is not what its used to be. In years past a lot of the freshman training was cadet run but since our new commandant she wants to focus on developing leaders in a different way. Training now has a lot more restrictions and a lot of traditions have been modified or done away with entirely.

What's for lunch in the chow hall today?

If you feel comfortable commenting, what do you think about the changes? Good? Bad?

Personally I think majority of the changes are good, some do take away from the "doolie" experience but we're are trying to replicate the operational air force.

Lunch was chicken with some rice and vegetables!

What was the hardest thing when you applied? How were you in high school? What were your SAT scores? Did you attend summer seminar. Sorry I know that is a lot I am just starting to apply and would like some advice.

The hardest thing for me was honestly getting a nomination. My state is extremely competitive and that was a whole different application. I didn't get one which is why I went to a prep school. My SAT was pretty bad, my ACT was a 27 but that's why I went to a prep school. I did attend summer seminar but I don't know if it helps. It looks good, but I know a lot of people who didn't go to it.

Thank you! I was just accepted to summer seminar and I am going to be attending session A. I am in the state of Pennsylvania and I do not think it is very competitive for nominations but I am not exactly sure. Thank you so much! One more question. Do you play sports for them or did you just go for education?

I just went for the education, but you can do club sports here that are close to being intercollegiate athlete. I just rather focus on my grades than being apart of a team.

I'm a junior also beginning my application process to the academies. However I know I have one "achille's heel", so-to-speak, in my resume. I have lots of leadership experience, good grades, my first SAT was good, I have lots of volunteering hours, and I play in the school band too. The catch is that is that I played JV baseball for only two years. Nevertheless I'm in good shape and continuing to prepare for Summer Seminar and eventually the CFA. So what I'm asking is, from what you've seen and heard, how much will my application to the academies be impacted by the fact that I don't have a varsity letter? Thank you in advance.

What type of transportation off base is available for cadets?
During visitor hours, Uber can get on base! There's also an app (FalconRide) that is for cadets only where upperclassmen will offer rides for a small fee or gas money. I actually used FalconRide to get to the Denver Airport before my break and spent only $20 vs the $60 that the cadet shuttle charges and about $90 Uber charges (Uber is not bad if you split the fare with a group). Although FalconRide can cancel at any time so it's not as reliable as the shuttle.

LOL NONE. I did JV Track for two years and the thing that sent me to a prep school was because of my CFA. It really is dependent on background/ethnicity/gender/race etc. They want a school of diversity and honestly I know kids who had a really good resume and didn't get selected. Try your best and just have a good attitude. You won't have everything perfect, but they look at more than accomplishments. However, this all just based on my experience so please do not take what I say as scripture but I do know a thing or two.

What made you want to apply?
Cadets get that question a lot and it changes. For now, I wanted to apply because it's great education with a guaranteed job and promising career opportunities. I wanted to do more than just go to college, I wanted to help make a difference in the world I live in. Nothing is wrong with civilian schools, but I wanted a little more to my life.

If you're comfortable sharing, what was wrong with your CFA ?
