It looks like it will be close to 100 degrees this week. How hot is where you sleep? Any ventilation?

You won't notice the heat indoors at all. You will while you're marching, though. But don't worry, they will make sure that you're hydrated.

Basically, what @Tar Heel MIDN said. It'll be hot outside, but the MIs will make sure you drink lots of water.

Hello, question for my DD, a college programmer, who just finished NSI (1) and waiting for the next steps from her NROTC contact. I know DoDMERB is one of the next steps prior to activating her 3-year scholarship. How long does DoDMERB take and what other requirements are we expecting to fulfill prior to beginning her sophomore in college? Any tips for a parent who lets her child navigate the whole NROTC? She loves her NROTC family and I'm so proud of her finishing NSI and thrived as a 4C in college. Thank you.

If your DD has heard from the Side Load Board and been awarded a scholarship, congratulations to her. Great Job!. My DS was a CP also. He was awarded a sideload in mid summer between 4C and 3C. After he was awarded, he heard from DoDMERB pretty soon after he was awarded. Maybe a week. He set up his DoDMETS account after getting the DoDMERB notification by email. Fill that out and then made a appointment for the physical. After the physical is it pretty much just wait and get notification of qualified. DS had a minor waiver to deal with, so it added a week or 2 extra, but the entire process took like 45-60 days. Some of it depends on how soon you set up the in person physical. The sooner the better even if you have to travel some distance for a sooner appt.

The only process that I recommend a parent be a part of is filling out the medical history. I highly recommend being available to help answer dates, conditions, etc for your Mid. Mine also tended to want to overshare and self diagnose for fear of getting in trouble. I'm not talking about hiding a medical condition. I mean he diagnosed himself with headaches because he had a headache once...stuff like that. You don't want them to self diagnose with a medical condition they don't have because they are not sure. Saves them ALOT of trouble later if they need a waiver for something they don't have.

After physical he just went back to unit and he was sworn in after signing some documents. It was a pretty easy process for DS to navigate.

Thank you for this info. Very helpful! I didn't know that the email will not be coming from her college NROTC folks. She was told to wait mid-July/early August for the correspondence. She was verbally informed (informally) that she is on track for the scholarship. We are keeping our fingers crossed and hoping for a smooth DoDMERB. I will definitely guide her in this process. So she will hear from her unit of what the Board decided. I believe it was a LT with his unit that handles that. I thought the board was in late July/August, but didn't want to assume it hadn't changed. So she will get notification of award, then just keep a eye out for the DoDMERB email to start that process. Good news is DoDMERB is not super busy in late summer like it is later in the year. The faster she gets the DoDMERB process done, then faster she will get the qualified notice.

From NSI1 - Did you get any sense of the days getting easier in any area as the ~16 days drew towards a close? If so, in what way?

Sort of. I'm pretty sure the MIs got easier on us as the end got closer, but from my own experience, during NSI, my company got a lot of IT from our Gunnery Sergeant. I won't go into specifics about what we did that got us in trouble, but from what I've heard from my MIs, it is that we did over 3,000 push-ups in the span of those 2.5 weeks from IT alone, not including PT.
