I would like to know if it would backfire in any way to ask my counselor or maybe even my ALO as to when enlist d airmen will found out about our admission? I know the candidate booklet talks about the admission timeline but it doesn't specifically say whether those dates are for just regular candidates or all encompassing.

In my experience, LEAD applicants usually find out closer towards the end. End meaning, around the end of April. I say this, because the vast majority of LEAD applicants are going to go to the Prep-School. On a very few will go directly to the academy. As such, the academy needs to finish processing their direct appointments first. Then, they work on the prep school.

If I remember correctly, of the roughly 235 prep-school slots, a max of 85 are dedicated to prior enlisted. However, on average, there's usually only about 50-ish prior enlisted that get the slots. Mainly because not as many apply or are qualified.

Now, if you happen to be a LEAD applicant who is being considered for direct entry to the academy, you'll find out along with everyone else.

Hope this helps. "Patience" is not what we like to hear; unfortunately, it's the correct answer. Best of luck.

Copy all. Yeah, I'm in the boat for a direct entry due to my age. According to the LEAD Handbook, I met the requirements academically to get in with 600 English 650 Math on the SAT. You're so right about he waiting part, it is so hard though. Who knows my commander might tell me at next commander call.

I found out in late April, 2012. There is still a lot of time. Good luck.

Thank you for that information! So if my application is showing Candidate/Complete I have a good chance of going to the Prep School through the LEAD Program?

Most airmen applying through the LEAD program have a very good chance. Your commander and such wouldn't have endorsed your application if they didn't think you were a good fit. So yes, I would say you have a good chance. But I don't have access to your application, so I don't make any promises. Best of luck.

The prior enlisted in my squadron who were direct entry didn't find out until May...probably not what you want to hear, but it means there's still a lot of time for you to get an offer of appointment.
