My DS received a DQ for Asthma and food/nut allergy. He was prescribed an inhaler after his 13th birthday and within the last 3 years (as precaution). He also just started a Oral immunotherapy program for the peanut allergy where he is taking small doses of nuts. He took a spirometry test and was deemed by his pulmonologist as not having asthma. The report from his doctor was submitted to DoDMERB and we are waiting to hear back. He has an appointment to USAFA and is excited to attend his dream school. I am worried that he will not be granted a waiver. Is this the end? Is there anything else that can be done or should he proceed with plan B. Can he receive a waiver for Asthma or does he need to submit the food oral challenge to be granted the single waiver for both. How many nuts does he have to eat? Just don't know where to turn or what to do. Praying for the best.

MOM/DAD: Google "DoDMERB;" Hit "Questions on the process;" Read paragraph #4.

I'm planning to start peanut immunotherapy this summer (C/O '26 applicant), do I have to be done with the treatment by the time I go through DoDMERB, or can it wait until I'm appointed? (Assuming I am appointed :))

DoDMERB will apply this standard for Q/DQ =History of acute allergic reaction to fish, shellfish, peanuts, or tree nuts including the presence of a food-specific immunoglobulin E antibody if accompanied by a correlating clinical history.

IF DoDMERB DQ's, Academies and ROTC programs can consider for medical waiver :wiggle:
