Asthma DQ Appeals Process

My DS received an email indicating the he has been disqualified from USNA and NAPS due to the use of an inhaler at 14 at the start of his football athletic season. He was never diagnosed with asthma by his doctor. The only records provided to DoDMERB were prescription history. My wife requested additional prescriptions at his annual physical at 15 and 16 but he did not use them.
Does he have the ability to take a challenge test and submit the results to appeal the DQ decision?
If so does anyone know how best to initiate and navigate that process?

Have DS...the applicant...comply with the FAST sticky under the DoDMERB tab...

AFTER he reads:

Https://DoDMERB.tricare.osd.mil;
Hit “Questions about the process.”
Read paragraphs 4;11-12;15-21
I will answer him...DS...the applicant...if he emails me...very late tonight or no later than midnight tomorrow.

You should read paragraph 4 😀😀

I appreciate the input. Unfortunately my DS is totally disengaged at this point. His waivers for both USNA and AFA have both been denied. Is there any hope that submitting results from a Methacholine challenge test to verify his health would help his cause? Is it too late at this point? Would he submit test results back to DoDMERB?
Thanks

A = My answers are contained in paragraphs 15-19. That said, if you submit, we will repost for their reconsideration :wiggle:

My dd did get a waiver for "asthma". She, too, had 2 inhalers prescribed in her 13th year. As part of her waiver, she ended up submitting a MCT and AFROTC also requested a pulmonary exercise-stress test, both of which were negative for asthma. She also saw a pulmonary MD who also indicated she did not have asthma. All additional medical information must be submitted to DoDMERB. As far as it being too late, I don't know, but if your child is interested in pursuing SA's next year or ROTC, I wanted to encourage you that a waiver is possible.

An important distinction =

DoDMERB DQs for a "history of" after the 13th birthday. DoDMERB does NOT comment on current status. That's a risk assessment made by the waiver authorities. :wiggle:

DS had inhalers as well. At least up to age 16. Get the MCT done. He received a USNA asthma waiver after he passed his.
