I realize this has probably been addressed a million times but looking for the latest info.
I have a senior. Off the charts in all areas. Applied for AFA. DODMERB came back “disqualified for asthma over 13”. Obviously there is a waiver process. She had an inhaler briefly at 14. No issues since. All-star athletes in track and cross country. Marathon runner. Max on PT test. Never a day of sickness in 3 years.

Questions:
Chances for waiver?
Anything she should do now, or just wait to hear from them?
Might she still be selected “conditionally” since nominations are going to come out before all waiver paperwork can be processed?

DODMERB confirmed they had all her paperwork in Dec, then in Feb said they never got it and so for it again.....so they have really screwed up the timing issue.

Thanks

There are half a dozen threads on this exact topic - probably within last 24 hours. If you review the posts in the DoDMERB forum, you will find them there. Briefly, the academy will request a waiver if the candidate is considered competitive for an appointment. As you will see, that request for waiver could be tomorrow, or that request may never come. Many are in the same situation.

Again, you can move this post to DoDMERB if you'd like, but I think you will find the information you are looking for in that forum. After you review those posts, you can come back with more specific question if you have them. And if it's posted in DoDMERB, then you have access to the DoDMERB official that is on this board. Good luck - hope it works out for you and your DD.

Yeah, I've talked to a few other candidates that, statistically, are competitive for an appointment and still haven't received a waiver request yet. Just hang in there.

She did tell me this morning that she heard back from her ALO who told her that they do not deny anyone an appointment based on medical. So if she is going to receive an appointment, she will receive it in the same timeframe and then have to go about getting the medical wavier.
