Hey everyone,

I'm passionate about Cross Country and I received 2 Varsity Letters for XC. I want to be recruited from the West Point XC coach so I emailed the coach but never received a reply.

Anyone thats been recruited or in the process can you tell me what I should do next?

Thanks!

First, reach out to Tactical Nuke and change your screen name. Don't use a real name.

Second, have you looked on the West Point athletic website and compared your times? Are you within range? Most of the websites have splits or times they are looking for. The coaches are really busy right now with the new class, recruiting trips, summer camps and upcoming season. If you have reached out to them you have done what you can. Going to be totally honest with you... Just because you want to be recruited doesn't mean your times are raising the attention of the coaches. Are you being recruited by other schools? Also I believe the athletic website has a recruit form to fill out... Did you just email the coach or fill out the form? If you haven't, do it.

In a post you made about a year ago on here you indicated you were just starting to participate in XC. Top XC runners have usually been competing since grade school and working to improve their strength/stamina and times over several years. Coaches doing recruiting will be looking for those who have been successful at the state and national levels, since those are your competition. Simply being a XC runner isn't good enough to catch the eye of college coaches and I agree as mentioned above, unless you have some amazing times/success after doing this for only 1 yr and are being recruited by other colleges, that probably tells you something. Being recruited for a sport is also no guarantee of getting an appointment as you will still need to be 3Q with a NOM to be in the running.

I'm a 2021 applicant as well and I am trying to be recruited for track. I filled out their online questionnaire and the coach got in contact with me. Something you can do, if it is financially possible, is to sign up for their cross country camp for the end of July. I am going to their track camp and this will give you a good opportunity to meet the coach, work with him, and get on his radar if you are not so already. In the mean time, keep training and trying to improve your times.

I don't know how far you are in the game, however Division Coaches are bound by NCAA rules on when to and when not to contact high school student athletes. You may write to them, but don't get discouraged if you don't get a reply.

the summer time is the dead period for track and field coaches to contact recruits. It really hurt my DD last year during SLE as she was not able to meet with the coaches. They finally came around but it was too late for 2020.

When did the dead period start? My son was contacted by a college coach for throwing (shot put and discus) on 6/28 - same day he had his wisdom teeth extracted. He was on serious meds and didn't want his mouth to start bleeding so they agreed to talk this coming week. Hmmmmmmmm!
