I'm looking for running shoe suggestions for beast. I plan to go to my local legitimate running shoe store for this but before doing so want to see if any current cadets or fellow appointees have any insight or advice. I currently have a pair of sauconys with little ankle support so would like to upgrade to something stable for athletic activity wear too.

My son and husband run in Brooks. Depending on how you run, there are different models. The Ghost is a neutral model/ fits the average foot. The running store should test you and Recommend some. Best of luck- shoes make a huge difference.

Most important aspect of running shoes is the fit to your level of pronation, i.e. how much your foot rolls inward when it strikes the ground. No pronation calls for cushioned shoes. Severe pronation calls for motion control shoes. In between calls for stability shots. The running store should be able to help you determine your pronation and the shoes that make sense.

I recommend Hokas. But most important is you get something that works for your gait, your pronation, and your arches. Specific brand does not matter much. I would not recommend getting something too fancy for Beast as you'll trash them pretty good.

Ask about inserts like super feet when you’re at the running store. They are spends but worth it for the extra support. My DD runs in brooks ghosts but it’s all a personal choice based on fit and feel.

If you have a Fleet Feet nearby, that is a good choice of running shoe store. Both my sons ran cross country and track throughout HS and most of their shoes were from Fleet Feet and all the associates, at least in our local stores, seem really knowledgeable.

I got a pair of the Brooks Ghost 13‘s a couple months ago. I have loved them. no pain running 4,5,6 miles at a time.

For R-day, my son went with good ol' New Balance made in USA 990's. Not an attractive shoe, but very durable and come in mostly/all black. I don't know if the color is a requirement anymore, but he didn't want to draw attention to himself with brightly colored running shoes. They held up well and got him through Beast and his first semester. He brought them home at Christmas break and they were shot...Santa brought him a new pair of Nike Air Pegasus. The Nike's are lighter but likely wouldn't have held up from Beast and the various activities (in addition to running) like the sturdier NB's did.

I run in the nike zoom pegasus. I run 35-50 miles a week and they hold up pretty well. It's all just personal preference though. I'd probably go to the local running store and try on some shoes and see which ones feel the most comfortable. Hoka's, Brooks, Nike, Saucony, New balance, and Asic are all good brands
