My DS, like many others, is in CPR right now. He has an athletic scholarship at Plan B that he will have to accept or decline by April 12. If he accepts the athletic scholarship there and then receives an appointment at USNA afterwards, how will that affect his NCAA eligibility if he accepts an appointment at USNA?

I don't believe that signing a letter of intent is binding and since the USNA does not offer athletic scholarships there should not be a problem. Maybe somebody with more experience can chime in.

My understanding as well. SAs don't participate in LOIs. You still have a few weeks before this becomes an issue. Hopefully it's resolved shortly.

All of this would depend if your son is signing a National Letter of Intent where he is accepting a scholarship. National Letters of Intent are binding and you would need assistance to release your son from his contract with said school before accepting his appointment. I would consult with a Sports attorney or call the NCAA eligibility center.

DS will know his USNA status by April 15. Any chance you could ask for a 3 day extension on accepting the athletic scholarship?

My DS is in the same boat. Since it is a SA he can accept an appointment at anytime even after accepting the athletic scholarship. It is military which makes the scholarship null and void if he accepts the appointment. We know several people who have done this in years past and also gotten this advice from admissions counselors at the SA.
