Attack subs using XBox controller

Saw this story last evening and talked about it at dinner. We have had a few earlier discussions about how the new generation of our military is suited to be able to fly drones, etc as it is so familiar to them. Most of our kids have had at least a passing introduction to the Xbox or similar controller. Being able to transfer those skills to a useful job in the military will benefit us all. I also love that the controller is $30 vs $38000 for the past device. That in itself is newsworthy.

Now if I can just find a way to utilize my decades old experience with Ms. PacMan to something that benefits society...

This is awesome! It's the right choice for today's Milennials.

That is a genius move on Lockheed Martin's part.
I am of the opinion that the answer to a lot of design problems is low-tech, but few people think that way.

I am also reminded of the engineers designing the Apollo Lunar Entry Module (LM). They had to save on weight and realized that the LM didn't NEED seats for the two-man crew. They just had the crew stand at the controls. Their legs were the "shock-absorbers" for the landing (which wasn't all that hard, because they were going to be landing in 1/6 gravity).

Back in the mid eighties, I worked for a large electronics retail and appliance chain.

My boss at that time, who was a retired Marine Phantom II driver, was trying out a video game with an advanced "joystick." He then vehemently complained about how future fighter planes were being "designed with *&#@ controls like this." (He used LOTS of #%*! in daily use).

kk that’s hilarious ^^. That’s a nice joy stick with simple functions. Little did he know today’s joy stick doesn’t have a stick anymore. Called Controllers. Curious how our airplane cockpit flight sticks will evolve in the future.

Uh yeah, what's your point?

I was going to say everytime the controller breaks down they can dock and run to Radio Shack. Now adays, that is easier said then done. Maybe Best Buy
