Hello,
Our DS has ~not~ received a scholarship from NROTC - MO. Although it may be extremely selective, our DS has really high merits in all the areas, was extremely knowledgeable at the interview and has a strong bearing. He very well may not "win" the MO scholarship, however. In case he, does, he will have a large decision of puzzle pieces involving a couple of schools and financial decisions. He won an Army 4 year scholarship, which he can use for room/board since our State has almost all tuition covered. At our very selective and desirable flagship State U, he was admitted to Honors and tuition is almost free. However, there is no Marines Option here. His heart was very, very much into the Marines and we want to prayerfully and wisely consider his future options. If Auburn helps with room and board, that would make it an even situation financially, except with larger strings attached.

Again, I don't know if he will even get the MO scholarship (he is/we are thrilled with his Army and flagship State U opportunity), but since the decision must be turned around very, very quickly, the financial quandry of room and board is a huge one. So any info on Auburn? DS earned the highest Auburn award for out of state and he was admitted to Auburn Honors college. thank you

MY DS is also waiting on the NROTC-MO boards. He was also awarded a 4-Year AROTC scholarship. Auburn was on his list, he is also out of state. He had several discussions with the AROTC at Auburn, but decided he wanted to go the SMC route. No assistance for room and board was mentioned, but he did receive a sizable academic scholarship to Auburn that he could have been used for Room and Board. It would have basically covered all of his R&B.

Auburn is not listed on the NROTC website as offering additional benefits to NROTC students. See link here:

As the link states: "These benefits are provided directly by or through the Universities, not the NROTC program or the U.S. Navy. They are provided for informational purposes, and are accurate at time of posting, but are subject to change. Contact the Universities directly for the most up-to-date additional benefits."

Recommend you call Auburn University to confirm.

I was wondering this...if someone actually knows if the "sizable" academic scholarship Auburn offered my son (equates to in-state tuition) could be used for Room and Board.

My son should do this, do you know who he should call? He had a meeting in person with the Marine Captain Cadre. We had a personal all day tour, including the Honors College. Admission? Thank you.

I just spoke with Auburn and the school scholarships (at least in the case of the one my DS received) are independent of the ROTC and could be used for room and board. It may be worth a call on your DSs specific scholarship.

Looks like @EEBTTF just spoke with Auburn U. Perhaps he could share the contact info for the office he spoke with.

Full disclosure - I know nothing about Auburn U so this may not apply in this case - just a general caution that some schools offer generous academic scholarships, but these can be retracted completely or reduced significantly when a ROTC scholarship comes into play.

My DD was informed by snail mail that she was awarded a NROTC scholarship but wanted more info. She just spoke with the NROTC “office” about room and board at Auburn and was instructed to call the school. She has been awarded a merit scholarship (out of state) and accepted into the honors college there and was told by someone in the Auburn ROTC office that the merit scholarship will be applied. Our best efforts at quick math tell us that we will probably have to pay about $600 out of pocket per semester. That’s not including the monthly stipend they will receive. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me😜 Phone number used 334-844-4364

Thank you; I have seen that said before and we are not able to pay for any such school since our in-state is paid for.

My conversations line up with @Navybrat71. With my DSs merit scholarship he would be basically on a full ride (positive with the stipend). Auburn Scholarship office confirmed that they would award the merit scholarship independent of the ROTC scholarship and it could be used for any school expense, including R&B.

@Go Dores! - I just called the main scholarship office number, gave them my DSs AU ACCESS ID and got to a very nice lady right away. Very helpful.

We are in state for AUB, DS awarded 4 year AROTC, AFROTC and merit scholarships as well. We are currently awaiting the MO boards decision as well. Good luck to everybody!!

Have met with AUB scholarship, admissions Housing and ROTC cadre in person. All merit money will be awarded regardless of ROTC Scholarships! The method of operation as explained as follows: Tuition bill hits your academic account, merit money sweeps in from University (in our case leave a small amount still outstanding). As long as you are contracted, the university will not require up front payment to start the semester for any outstanding balances after merit money is paid into the acct.. ROTC money will sweep into the account sometime in the "near future" after semester starts to pay the full amount of tuition & fees which now leaves a credit. Advised to have an account created with direct deposit instructions with the school. All positive credits will sweep out of the academic university accounting into your personal account. This happens sometime after you have started the semester. Now on to your room and board: this is on a separate billing system with campus housing. This bill must be paid before move in. Credits from the tuition will not be accessible until after ROTC monies hit the account to create the credit as mentioned above. This means the student (parent?) pays the housing bill up front expecting in the coming weeks for the tuition money to be reconciled with monies coming back. We were advised to seed the housing bill at the start and then pay it forward as the reconciled tuition money was remitted back to us. Hope this helps and if anyone finds out differently, please post your information. FWIW-this is our first hand information but it may be different that what other people have been told.

For Fall 2022 Auburn University Honors College Scholarship is annual renewable $11,000 for 1330 SAT GPA 3.5 unweighted and awarded at Acceptance. No need to separately apply. If you receive this scholarship then get a 4 year ROTC NROTC AFROTC then defacto your room and board is paid, After you accept your Auburn offer and if you have a final high school GPA of 3.85 they add another $6500.00 annual renewable Cha Ching

I don't know about NROTC but with AROTC the 4 year scholarship will take your tuition and books off. If you have a decent academic scholarship offer, you basically have a full ride. War Eagle!!

It depends on the scholarship. Some can only be applied to tuition while some let one use it as one wants.
