Hey guys, Ima try to keep this short feel free to ask for more if I confuse you.

Current Situation -
So, basically last year I tried joining the Army and told them about everything and they told me to lie about my medical record, so I went to MEPS and I passed MEPS but backed out last minute bc I didn't wanna go Reserves. Passed the stupid psych test and physical, everything.

Now, I am trying to join the Air Force, the Recruiter is nice, doesn't know what to do he just says it's "case-by-case" and keeps saying "You don't know if you have Autism, you say you don't and I don't know if you have Autism, so why don't you just say no?"
Because my Medical Record, like visits to the ER for a fever, or a cold, my mother always said I was either taking a medication or had Autism, so it's in the little side notes.

Here's the thing, I was diagnosed when I was like, 5, 6? Maybe 7.
I went to therapy / psychologist like 2 times when I was 10 for a different medication or something (basically just my mom flippin out and babying me) I was obviously shy and skettish and didn't want to talk to people when I was young. I was misdiagnosed, I dont have anything wrong with me. Literally, I am 100% normal and no one realizes anything strange with me.

I STOPPED taking medicine at 14 or 15 because I knew I do NOT have Autism, it was simply my mother SHELTERING and BABYING me. My mom is literally crazy about that, has 3 other kids that say the same thing and did the same to them. She worries too much.

I am now 20 years old. I have worked as a Security Officer, I have worked car sales for a year, I have made 1000 friends, goto parties, do stupid crap, so I know I'm not Autistic, I hated being labeled that, and have had NOTHING to do with Autism since I was 10, other than Medicine until I was 15.

Also I doubt anyone or even myself will ever find the original diagnose. Or ANY OFFICIAL DIAGNOSE. It's unfindable. Not on Med Records. Maybe one, if that. Do I have those records? No, idk what hospital I went to.

So if I can only get like 5 medical records out of the 20 I dont know where they are, am I in the clear? Can I submit like my wisdom teeth record and say no to having Autism? As if I never knew what it was at a young age if they bring it up be like ohh thats what that was? How do I remember if I been to a ER if I havent been for 5+ years?

Or do I just find as much record as I can and hand it over, WITH a new psychologist saying he sees no signs of Autism, because I AM getting undiagnosed and to say I was misdiagnosed as leverage, Recruiters best idea.
Also 15 College Credits to join, GED sadly.

Ideas? Advice? Please, I really want this.

Thanks.

Thing is you were diagnosed...

Also, this forum addresses commissioning. You really should address this with a recruiter.

Ah I wasn't aware sorry, and every recruiter tells me to lie or not to bring anything since I was a minor and act like I don't know, everyone says to lie.
What if my psychologist from when I was like 10 met up and he saw me and was like holy crap this dudes normal?

Ima say that at first I didn't think the military might be for you... then you said you go the parties and do stupid crap.

That should puff up any application. Good luck.

Just stop. If you can't be kind then just stop. Enough.

Dunno any Autist that can handle social capabilities like I have and do. Thats why I said that. Do waivers truly exist for the Military? I'll have a undiagnosis as leverage, or should I join without saying anything bout it like I didnt know? Its all from years ago.

I guess I have just been chastised by the self appointed internet police.

If you were taking medication up until 15, then you were diagnosed with something and prescribed medication. Those doctors would have medical records on why you were taking any specific drugs. Those medical records would be the ones you would need to produce, MEPS doesn't care about dental records if they want to see why you were given a prescription.

You could get a current evaluation from a doctor and testing to see if they currently diagnose you to being on the spectrum. Many people who are on the spectrum can function normally. However, it is difficult to test for autism in adults.

Focus on current functioning and get an up to date evaluation. The psychiatrists I work with do assess adults for autism so I imagine that wherever you are there should be specialists who can do the same. Good luck - it's great you are problem solving and figuring out what the possibilities are.

I agree with mswmommy. An up to date evaluation is your ticket. Regardless of what you took meds for-you did not need them after about 15 or so so that is key. I see children "lose" the diagnosis when they outgrow symptoms after years of treatment. Similar to childhood asthma. Good luck to you!!
