69, have you ever played the Grove Park Resort in Asheville?

Nope, being an Arts and Crafts fan, I stay at the Inn every chance I get, but usually during the "off" season when it is too cold to play golf. For years, the golf course has been the red-headed stepchild of the resort and hardly worth playing, but, my understanding is that it has been refurbished and starting to come around.

Best thing about Grove Park Inn: The lounge with the huge fireplaces and the chef in full dress whites with his Pillsbury Doughboy hat and fondue pot every afternoon serving chocolate-covered strawberries.

Being a frugal Scot who loved summer camp as a kid, I am partial to the High Hamptons Inn in Cashiers. Weekday early autumn when the kids aren't around makes for a great golf vacation. Typical old mountain narrow course in great shape. Not too much sand or water but narrow.

I usually start wtih "When Harry Met Sally" - I have never met a male who could sit through the whole thing!

That's because it's mind-bendingly dull.

This morning my GF said to me, "War movies GOOD! Chick flicks BAD! Adventure movies GOOD!"

I think I'll keep her! :thumb:

need tissue

Geeze, great video, but you should be warned (especially if you are a mom of a child in Iraq) that you are going to need a box of tissues to watch this!

Wow. Thanks Antoinette for finding it & posting it here. Support to our troops always melts my heart. Its as it should be.

The support shown to our troops in this music video is better than words. I more than enjoyed this video. It is helping me to understand and accept my son's choice to serve in the Army.

I can't swallow past the lemon-size lump in my throat.

Great video Antoinette, thanks for sharing it.
I had to get a tissue. Anything patriotic makes me tear up.

Great video.

As always, some members of the "We support the troops but not the war" crowd turned up in the comments.

Well... Rangers tied up the series 2-2, oh baby I love the NHL Playoffs, hockey definately is the most exciting sport ever.

A laugh for the day

A guy was driving around the back woods of Tennessee and sees a sign in front
of an old shanty-style farmhouse: " Talking Dog for Sale"

The guy goes into the backyard and sees a well-groomed, handsome Golden
Retriever sitting there.

"You talk?" he asks.

"Yep," the Golden replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says "So,
what's your story?"

The Golden looks up and says, "Well, I discovered I could talk when I was
pretty young. I wanted to serve my country, so I contacted the CIA.

They had me sworn into the toughest branch of the armed services ...the
United States Marine Corps ... you know, because one of their nicknames is
"The Devil Dogs".

In no time at all the Marines had me jetting from country to country, sitting
in rooms with spies and world leaders; because no one figured a dog would be
a security threat or eavesdropping.

I was one of their most valuable sources of key information for eight years
running, but the traveling tired me out and I knew I wasn't getting any
younger. So, I decided to settle down.

I retired from the Marine Corps (8 dog years is 56 Corps years) and got a
good part-time job at the airport to do some undercover security work,
wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered
significant dealings that were unlawful.

At the end, I was awarded a batch of medals from the Marine Corps, the CIA,
and TSA.

Got married, fathered a bunch of puppies, and now I'm retired, just enjoying
life in the country."

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the
dog.

"Ten dollars," the farmer says.

"Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so
cheap?"

"Because he's a liar. He never did any of that crap. He was in the Navy."

:shake: :yllol:  ! !

Good one JM!

Now about those Rangers, Chip. yep they are making the Sabre's work - check back in after they win the next two games! Hockey is a great sport to watch but it makes me dizzy watching it on TV - much better being there.

Changing Political Correctness

The Herndon thread on "that other forum" reminded me of the last edition of The Log my first class year. How do you think it would go over today? The six striper blouse was a company mate of mine who still thinks he is going to get fried for providing it.

Not quite Playmid, but close for us.

She is the mother of a Class of 1997 grad.

You post that over there and the usual suspects will have a collective hissyfit that will drop the site off the web.

Go for it!

LOL! What a cheesecake shot! Thats a real collector's item there. Wonder if her kid got razzed over his pretty Mom? Was this a yearly publication?

Was this a yearly publication?

The Log used to be published about every six to eight weeks or so. It was an absolute riot and a Brigade favorite, esecially the Salty Sam column where all the gossip was tossed around.

It is a travesty that some linguini-spined losers felt it was too politically incorrect to continue publishing it. :unhappy:

I still have all of mine, and a few others I scrounged. Some day I am going to scan them all and post them.
