    Greetings,
My son was awarded a 4 year Army ROTC Scholarship. His guidance counselor is asking if someone will be presenting this award at his HS Awards Night. Who do I contact about this?
He will be attending Norwich . Do I contact someone there? We live at Fort Bragg.

    Thanks,

My son let the coordinator at the awards night know, and he also let his principal know. Then he let the ROO know the night and sent him the necessary email addresses.

Typically the ROTC unit to which the student will report will try to send someone if it is a local college, so connect first with that unit. If not, connect with the Admissions office or the Alumni Association for the college or university you are attending. They will likely try to have someone appropriate present the award. My College always tries to have an alumnus who completed the ROTC Program the student will be enrolled in make the presentation. Congratulations and best of luck to you.

A tasking will go out in the next few weeks to all the Army ROTC host's to support HS awards ceremonies to scholarship winners in their footprint. If your HS awards ceremony is late APR/early MAY let your ROO now so they can give the heads up to the local ROO in case the tasking and information doesn't come down in time.

Does anyone know if they only do this if you’re medically cleared? My son is waiting on two waivers. I emailed his ROO, but haven’t gotten a response.

My DS is attending CU Boulder in the Fall and has only interacted with the Admission and Scholarship Officer. I passed her information along to our high school guidance counselor, but there are several other professors and leaders listed on the Cadre page. Should somebody else have been used as the point of contact? How do we know who the ROO is?

The ROO is in charge of scholarships and enrollment, so I believe that person at CU Boulder is Mrs. Hageman.

Yes they will do it. My son was not medically cleared at the time last year, waiver was pending. The presentation stole the show!! It’s worth pursuing. Congratulations.

Medical clearance has nothing to do with scholarship award presentation.

My son's high school asked if I could supply them with some more information about the requirements for the scholarship, how many are awarded, etc. What would be the best source for this?

This is retrieved from the University of North Georgia Army ROTC website:

How do I improve my chances or receiving an Army ROTC Scholarship?
Army Cadet Command looks at three areas of performance in what they term Scholar/Athlete/Leader (SAL) criteria.

The more extensive your leadership record in these activities, the better your chances. The Cadet Command selection board makes decisions based on the strength of your application compared to the applicant pool. The profile for the 2017 academic year nation-wide recipients:

95% were in the top 50% of their classes in academics (69% were in the top 25%)
    26% were class officers
    90% earned varsity sports letters
76% were varsity team sports captains
    28% were in JROTC
    18% were club presidents
    3.6 average GPA
1268 math + critical reading SAT; 28 ACT composite score

How many scholarships are available nation-wide?
For the academic year 2016-2017, about 4,500 high school senior applications for the scholarship were reviewed.

About 2,500 applicants were awarded a scholarship. About 30% of those were 4-year scholarships and 70% were 3-year scholarships.
