Hi:

I'm writing just to garner some insight from you more experienced folks about the NAPS admissions.

Here's the situation: I finished my USNA application before the due date, but my Physical Education teacher never input my fitness test scores into the electronic system.

Do you guys think I still have a shot at making NAPS this year? I have a nomination from my congressman to NAPS, and everything except for the fitness test score is in recorded onto the application.

I do realize that it was my responsibility to inform my P.E teacher about this.

Thanks for the insight.

I would be surprised. NAPS is usually reserved for someone who is lacking the Q on the academic side.

Have you now submitted your CFA? I believe your CIS portal indicates what elements you have and have not completed. I would hope that, when you saw on Feb. 1 (if not earlier) that your CFA had not been entered, you immediately took steps to mitigate the situation. For example, contacting your RD in Admissions to let him/her know what happened, contacting your PE teacher right away and letting him/her know to input your scores electronically, following up to ensure they was entered as soon as possible, etc. Mistakes happen but the key is identifying them and doing whatever possible to correct the situation as quickly as possible.

It's now mid-March. If your CFA still has not been submitted, it's possible that USNA has not even reviewed your application and, absent a compelling reason, may never review it.

NAPS is not for those who don't complete an element of their package. Rather, it is for candidates who do complete their package and, for various reasons, would benefit from an additional year of prep school. In other words, the two issues are not related.

Finally, MOCs don't give nominations to NAPS. They give noms to service academies. A nomination isn't required for a NAPS appointment, although many NAPSters did have one or more noms.

Good luck with application for next year. Be sure to get EVERY element of the application done early and not just before the deadline. Train for and do several practice fitness tests to max them out.
Make sure that you keep on top of-and own responsibility for all elements of the application.
Take a comparable course load to first year at the academy and re-apply.
Explain to your niominating source what happened now and that you will be reapplying and hope for another nomination.

Good Luck!
