I just finished my first semester in college at a 4 year university. I am a reapplicant and I submitted my college transcript. I took 15 credits. Got an A- in Calculus and a B+ in Chemistry. I got an A in everything else. GPA is 3.78, Dean's List. Is the B+ going to bring me down?

One other question. A guy in my Congressional District was given an LOA back in November, and I'm pretty sure he's been nominated. I have been nominated from the same Congressman. Does his appointment mean that I'm sunk?

Assuming your other courses were "core" courses (English, history, science, etc.), probably not. If your other courses were art, music, weightlifting, sociology, etc., there could be more of an impact. a B+ is still very good.

No. First, he may have another nominating source and thus may not be slotted to that MOC. Even if he is slotted to that MOC, you go into the national pool and compete with other candidates. It is not uncommon in competitive geographic districts for multiple canididates from the same slate to receive an appointment.

My classes were:

Calculus I
Chemistry I
Chemistry Lab
Professional and Technical Writing
Philosophy
Freshman Intro (mandatory)

I think a B+ wouldn't look bad by most standards unless you were looking to get into med school or something . This is college not high school and generally speaking college chem classes are not easy (especially organic). I wouldn't sweat it since the rest of your grades are solid.

I'm almost literally in the same boat as you.

3.78 GPA, B+ in Calc 2 and A- in Philosophy

A in English

A in Engineering

A in Foundations of the US Air Force.

I don't think the B+ is anything to worry about, especially since it's college chemistry. It's not the same as high school chemistry where you can goof off and still obtain an A.

Regardless, I think having a 3.78 GPA is very respectable for your first semester of college. I think we both have a good chance of getting that appointment.

With that LOA thing, I have no idea. I had fears of the same thing, being that a person from my district might have an LOA and I won't get an appointment because of it.
