I'm having my medical examination on August 2nd. Last fall I went to physical therapy due to football for my back. I was given heat therapy for a few days to eliminate a back spasm in my lower back. What can I expect out of this when it comes to passing medically. (I'm applying for West Point if that changes anything). Should I expect a DQ for this back incident even if it doesn't effect me anymore? If a DQ will come, will a waiver be possible; or is a back problem DQ a final call, no waiver allowed?

If it was a one time issue, and was cleared up within a few days, and it really was just a muscle spasm, then there should be no issue. DoDMERB will request all medical records concerning this, so I'd start gathering them now.

Based on what you've stated here, I don't think it will be an issue.

Ok that's a relief. Also, I broke out in hives when I was around 6 years old from an allergic reaction to the antibacterial known as "augmentin". My doctor reminded me recently of this and said I should put that down. Is this a serious allergy that I should worry about in regards to a DQ? If this is a DQ, can I get a waiver?

Just a quick note, I removed your other post, since I can just answer everything here.

An allergy to an antibiotic is not a disqualification, but it does need to be mentioned so it can be included into your medical records.

When you say they will request the records, do you mean that they will want the records the day I show up for the exam? Or will they want me to send them to them asap? Or do you just mean in the case they DQ me, I should have the records for it?

You will get your physical examination done, it will be forwarded to DoDMERB. At DoDMERB a reviewer and possible a physician will go over your physical examination. DoDMERB will then request copies of the medical records. DO NOT take copies of your medical records to your physical examination. They will not make it to DoDMERB. You need to wait until you receive the letter from DoDMERB requesting the information before submitting it.

Thank you for your quick reply, you have been a blessing for me so far. I truly appreciate what you do here for all of us. Do you have any tips before I go to the exam? Like stretching daily before it or certain eating/drinking habits; certain things to avoid eating/doing before it? I am really anxious for the exam, I would rather be turned away from WP because of an academic reason rather than a medical one.

Theres nothing to special that you need to do. Just make sure you are well rested and hydrated, and try to cut back on athletic activities for 2 days prior. Other than that, there really isn't anything else to do.

I have my exams tomorrow, and I am finishing my medical history forms. I have two "yes" answers. One for back pain and the other for allergies. Both situations I have mentioned here. How exactly should I word them?

Explain them the same way as you did here, but also include all the information that the form requests (dates, physicians, etc)
