I know I’ve seen somewhere that I have to get a background check before I actually enter on West Point. Is this a thing? Or since Ive completed e-qip I might not have to? And what about my family when they drop me off for r-day?

Family needs to go to the visitors center (just outside of Thayer gate) to get a pass. If you are a cadet candidate (CC), have them apply for the 4 year visitor's pass -- it will save them time in the future. I believe a CC can just enter with ID for R-Day drop off.

As to your family. There will be a form to send to West Point ahead of time for a local area credential ahead of R-day. A background check will be conducted and you will need to drop by the Visitor Control Center to get family's credentials and photo for visitor pass. For parents it is good for 4 years and for siblings it is good for 1 year. We stopped by the Visitor Control Center the day before DS was to report and picked up the visitor passes.

This will all be eventually explained in time by West Point. Congratulations on your appointment.
