Your high school work will be considered and evaluated. Trend upward!

Yes, as long as your resume is well rounded.

Additionally, NAPS and Foundation offers come through the general application process.

USNA (and all SA’s) look for well rounded leaders who can be developed into future officers. It’s a whole person review.

It’s IMPOSSIBLE to predict any outcome, for anyone, ever. The one thing that’s 100 pct true, is that you will not receive an offer of appointment if you don’t apply.

A postive trend is much better than a downward trend...
The only person that doesn't have a chance of getting in is the person who doesn't apply..

My biggest selling point to the academy was that I can overcome challenges. One of those challenges was bad grades my freshman year. I overcame it by straight up trying harder. If you express to them that you have grown from your downfalls they will look upon that in a good light.

Make sure that you 'address' this issue in your essay and interviews. As noted, it may be a 'challenge' you needed to overcome, or perhaps some personal or health issues came up that year, such as the pandemic and virtual school. Keep up the good school work, and score as high as you can on the SAT/ACT as this indicator will help alleviate any concerns about a lower GPA.

You also have a section at the bottom of the application to explain "extenuating circumstances." I explained in mine that my school profile is weird because my school is a public school but also has an Academy attached to it. Things like that can go here.

There is a story that one of Napoleon's generals came up to him during a fight and said "Emperor Napoleon, this battle is completely lost."

Napoleon's response was "This is true but it is early and there is still time to win another." He then went on to victory.

Good luck to you!
