Hey all, first time here on the SAF, and was hoping I could find some answers.

Recently I was on YouTube trying to find some information about the ROTC/NG SMP (Simultaneous Membership Program) and I came across this video:

In the video, and 2 minutes 30 seconds, the guy says he contacted a recruiter and was told he would not have to attend basic training due to the fact that he had 2 years of ROTC training.

Has anyone else ever heard of this, or know how it works?
I plan on joining the ROTC and doing the SMP whether I have to attend basic or not, but it would be nice not to have to.

Cheers,
JM

You do not have to attend BCT or AIT to be in the SMP program for AROTC. The reason many do attend BCT and AIT is to get the GI Bill Benefits, if you participate in ROTC as a SMP without attending BCT you will not receive those benefits, there are other benefits you may be able to receive and you will still receive your Drill Pay.

You can enlist as a 09R and not go to basic training. The only caveat is you usually have to contract with ROTC within the year or you will be sent to basic training.
