238 years ago today was fought the Battle of the Chesapeake. Although no Americans were involved, this naval battle, also known as the Battle of the Capes, may have been crucial to the success of the Revolution.
The French naval force led by Rear Admiral Paul prevented the British fleet from re-supplying and reinforcing the Lord Cornwallis's army on the Virginia Peninsula. Vive la France!
