Those new to USMMA may not realize that Kings Point is the ONLY service academy authorized to carry its own Battle Standard. The honor derives from the 142 USMMA cadets who lost their lives in service to our country during World War II. In remembrance of these lost lives, the academy holds a Battle Standard Dinner every spring. This year, the distinguished guest speaker was USMC Major General Vincent A. Coglianese. Here is a link to a video of the event. It is worth your time if you are interested in the history and customs of the academy.

Emphasis on OWN but one point of order. Kings Point commemorates the 142 on her Battle Standard as they will always hold a special place but the honor of the Battle Standard is due to ALL Midshipmen who travel into war zones during their sea year. Originally during WWII, but also every conflict since. This is evidenced by the multiple campaign streamers on the Battle Standard.

When you watch the Army Navy game and you see them carrying their Battle Standard full of campaign streamers remember that is the SERVICE Battle Standard, not the ACADEMY Battle Standard.
