Do Cadet's get to keep the letters they receive during BCT??
Thank you!

If they have pictures they will be confiscated until the end of BCT and then returned afterward.

What If I draw a picture?
I just have to ask. What part of no pictures during BCT is so hard to grasp? BCT only lasts a few weeks and the rules are in place for a reason. If you're not going through BCT yourself then you don't need to know the reason and if you are going through you'll understand soon enough. Your cadet doesn't need this process to be anymore difficult than it already is. Bending or breaking the rules doesn't do him any favors.

Okay! Thank you very very much! Appreciate it:) (I drew a heart after my signature... Hopefully he'll be fine) Thank you for your generosity and time!

Hearts are fine. The letters are important to Doolies. Try including a nice motivational quote and a joke in letters as they like to share those with other squad mates.

From talking with my DS, the card my DW sent that had a cute puppy picture on the front needed to be given to the cadre (we know it will be given back later). So yes, be prepared for pictures and drawings to be confiscated.

I'll admit, I could not help but sent stand-alone pictures of the USNA Plebes transporting white bags with their initial set of uniforms, etc. to Bancroft Hall with the aid of hand carts. Noted on the pictures to share with flight and cadre...

Someone didn't have their coffee before typing this morning, broah... uhmmm, B******N.
Seriously though, I think parents and loved ones have a hard time understanding the rigid rules of the military. The Air Force is especially more anal than the rest. Kind of silly if you ask me but we all have to play the game. If you really want to send pictures, place them in a bible since the cadre aren't allowed to go through religious objects. I think they are all vampires or something.:zip:

There are rules. If you want to break them then there are penalties your DS/DD will pay whether it be extra work (called getting beat) or being picked on by the Cadre in front of other Cadets. My DS maintained it had to be pretty blatant to catch their attention last year.

One a parent board one parent was so worried about a photo sent by her husband of a new nephew that she thought about calling or flying to the USAFA post office to ask for the piece of mail. I was amazed people were that concerned over having their DS/DD get a little extra attention.

They do not touch you during BCT. They have limitations on how much PT they can give you. The intent is not to hurt the Doolies. It is to train them and start molding them into warriors. They create teamwork, brother and sisterhood and make sure before the academic year starts that new Cadets are ready and willing to put in the time and work to succeed. Every year there is a portion who find out quickly a SA is not an ordinary school and the expectations are extremely high and they want no part of it. These prospects are weeded out by their own decisions by the BCT.

Trust you raised a strong child and trust thousands have succeeded through BCT before your child. Trust the SA has their best interest at heart and in offering an appointment is willing to invest heavily in your child. If you trust the above then sit back and enjoy the ride. It will be a roller-coaster with ups and downs. Your job as a parent is to support and motivate. Let them know it will be okay and they can survive. USAFA will take care of the rest.
