Just curious as to what basic cadets are allowed to bring and should bring to BCT. (i.e. Personal effects, clothing, etc.)

Everything you can and need to bring will be in your "Instructions to Appointees" package.

I'm trying to remember when DD received this information on her portal. I believe it was in March. Various forms and information seems to be posted to the appointees portals after they accept, and some items have to be completed before others are available.
Sorry, I cannot be more specific. I know it is hard not knowing what is expected, but it is another one of those "hurry up and wait" things.

I believe the letter came in March that provided you the information on arrival, travel, and what to bring. Stick to the list. A suggestion my DS got and took was to buy your boots ahead of time and break them in walking and running. The less you bring the lighter your load the first day.

Where can I get these boots? How do I know they will be approved?

Until you have the appointee instructions, you will not know for sure which boots are authorized. In a couple of weeks you should know which ones. Last year, it was a specific Belleville style.
As far as where to get them, most are available online, but the sizing can be different than other shoes/boots. So, trying them on before you purchase is best. Military clothing stores may have them, but that does not help if you do not have access to a military base/post.

Actually they were fairly relaxed last year. A lot of Cadets wore Nike boots. We bought a lightweight Belleville boot. They will also issue you boots the first day of BCT and there will be times you have to wear those but it is very limited. There will be some chat rooms that open up for parents and incoming cadets and these questions are asked and answered in those chat rooms.

by_co21, patience please, and additionally, a little research on your part!!!

There are many threads here about boots, what to bring (ABSOLUTELY NOTHING NOT SPECIFICALLY ON "THE LIST"), etc. As we move into spring, you will find you receive more information from USAFA, and all your questions will be answered.

Search through this site, and you may find, you have no questions at all!

Best of luck...

Your cadet will receive an informational packet that will outline this stuff. The list will be very short. Underwear, vneck t-shirts, boots, personal hygiene items and some cash (I think I got most of it :)). Everything else should stay home and sent/brought to them for A day.

Hi by_co21, I'm actually working as a BCT Cadre this summer. Pretty much anything that is brought on I-Day that is not on the packing list will be considered contraband and be held for the duration of BCT until A-Day. Although items like a phone or watch may be found on the list they may still be confiscated on I-Day (however, you should definitely still bring these things). Don't worry, Cadre will at no point go through your personal belongings. Contraband is typically secured in a room to be locked up for BCT.

Will non-issued boots be allowed during BCT this year?
