Be sure your signed up for I-DAY PICNIC!

Shuttle bus is best way to go. Permit to Report allows drive on but not parking (as of ours). Drop off and go to parking at the stadium. Take the shuttle back but leave plenty of time as your Plebe may be scarfed up by the Cadre as they show up in front of Alumni Hall. Have your spouse hide the Plebe (bandshell behind the tent) until you get back from parking. I missed Plebe enterance even though we were an hour early. Busses run all day long on approximately ten minute intervals. Picnic was great. You can still go into the Tent for the freebes without the wrist band. Get a seat early under the trees and guard it as it can be hot in the sun. The bags can also be purchased along with the t-shirts at the Midstore. You will spend lots of time and money at the Midstore.

Capt MJ mentioned Drydock. During some times of the day it is relatively quiet(and cool) since many don't know where it is. If I remember correctly the TV screens have live pictures of the processing from inside Alumni Hall and Bancroft?

I decided to go for it with the picnic ($17 x 4) is not too bad, and very convenient. OMG, the $17 x 4 is so wierd. Kinda sad - up until now it has always been 5 of us - starting 7/1, it going to be 4.

I can see they extended the deadline to 6/23, however I can't get to the picnic registration link now anyway. Whas up ???

I had a hard time signing up for the picnic on the site, too. I contacted them through the website stating I was attempting to sign up for the picnic and could not; someone called me back the next day, activated something on the site for us after we gave them our plebes name etc.... and it worked shortly after that. Good luck.

Let's see if understand this. ANYBODY can drive onto the Yard as long as they have a "Permit to Report" -but- they cannot PARK anywhere on the Academy grounds - is that correct? In other words, you can only drive into the Academy for the purpose of dropping off the candidate - right?

I happen to be an Alum. Wouldn't it be beneficial for me to get a pass at the Alumni House (outside the gate) so that I could just park on the grounds?

Thanks!

If you have a DOD sticker you can park aboard. That is what my family did on I-day.

I'm an alum but I do not have a DoD sticker. My understanding is that alumni can go to the Alumni House and get a sticker after they show their ID and it is crosschecked with the Alumni records. They can give you a "PASS" to freely drive onto Academy grounds for whatever time period you specify.

Wasn't aware of that service. With all the hoopla on I-day though, it may be worthwhile to take the shuttle. Annapolis traffic sucks as is. Unless you're doing a hotel in DTA. Then walking is the best bet.

Drive on and drop off is allowed with "Permit to Report". No parking allowed on the Yard with the "Permit to Report". Alum may be allowed Yard parking through the Association?? Not sure about that but I would check with the Association. As stated, Shuttle and traffic sucks from Stadium Parking back to Alumni Hall during the morning reporting times. If you want to be absolutely positively sure park at the Stadium and everyone "including Plebe" take the shuttle in to Alumni Hall drop off. We did a Yard drop off one hour early "plenty of time before official report time" and I missed the whole show because I was on the bus with the camera while Plebe was grabbed outside Alumni Hall and ushered in as soon as she arrived looking like a Plebe. During the day you can take the shuttle out to the car for anything you need and get back in a reasonable time. :thumb:

how are you all finding out about what is going on for I-Day? What is the grab and go tent? How can I get in on the 2013 proud parent stuff? Thanks.

So if you have a handicapped placard can you park in the yard to drop off your plebe? And those who are experienced-which gate would we want to go through?

To get to Alumni Hall to drop off your Plebe to be, it is easiest to enter through Gate 8. I am not sure of handicap parking near Alumni Hall as most of the parking lots over there are blocked off and you can not enter them on I Day. There is handicap parking over near the visitor center, gate 1 is the closest to that parking.

For anyone walking onto the yard, Gate 3 off of Maryland works well to get to Alumni Hall.

A lesson learned from our recent I-Day experience. If you are an Alum, it is of GREAT benefit to get this pass from the Alumni House. Being able to drive onto the Yard and park anywhere you want made life so much simpler, especially when you have a bag full of stuff you purchased at the Midstore to haul around.

Also, after the Induction Ceremony, there was a HUGE line of parents waiting to get back on the shuttle bus to take them back to their cars parked at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium. We just hopped in my car and drove away.

BOTTOM LINE: If you're an Alum - get the Alumni Pass!. The guards wave you right on through. It's every bit as effective as a DoD sticker.

Or you can do as we did, and walk into town, have a drink, snack and chat with our son's sponsor mom ... and get a ride back to the stadium after dark!
