I can hear the rotor blades.
^^^ Maplerock - that's until you've paid $$$ to replace lost uniforms (plebes don't make enough $$ to replace items that somehow never make it back), boiled synthetic compression shorts that have lost all stretch and only sag, and grey anything that was once white ... then if your kid wants to send it out and (as an upper class cadet) pay for it, by all means, let those rotors whirrrrrrr and send them the card .....
If the laundry system lost the uniform items, your cadet has the claims system to reimburse them. They just need to do their part, keep the ticket and follow the rules to get it filed appropriately. Their TL should be able to help them with that process. There is no reason they should be paying out of pocket or asking parents to send them money to do so. If they are, they are not holding the laundry service accountable and it will continue to be the status quo where everyone complains and nothing will be fixed.
Throwing this out as a thought as well, but the way I supplemented the laundry system when I needed to was to ask my sponsor to use their washer/dryer on the weekend. If you build that relationship with your sponsor family, most will be willing to do so.
