Beat Retreat

Actually..

re:
.... Admiral Stewart was so impressed with the band that the whole company enjoyed liberty until 2300 on Sunday and all restrictions were lifted! Not so last year, however liberty was extended some. ...

Last year during parents weekend all restrictions were lifted and liberty for PCs was extended as well.....I forget the reason that "Joey D" gave then, also we have a new administration and a new set of views on liberty so I believe the be flexible advice is still right on...

Beat Retreat is HOT!

Band Co is awesome for what they have to do and all the stuff they put up with! A word to the wise - DO go to the Beat Retreat on Friday evening. You will sit on bleachers in an unairconditioned old gym. Bring a hand fan, water and possibly a seat cushion (buy at school store). I can't begin to tell you how hot it is and PACKED! ABSOLUTELY worth going! And if your DS or DD can't, don't want to go, don't make them as they will see/hear the same songs over and over again. When given liberty, get them away from campus, fed a good meal or two and let them decompress.

Why don't they hold the beat retreat outside at the stadium under the lights?

DO NOT MISS BEAT RETREAT!! It is spectacular. I was beaming with pride in the school, my son, and my country. My son was a plebe last year and was in band co and on the football team. Needless to say we didnt see much of him at Parents Weekend between football practice and band practice. I didnt think he'd survive , but he lived to talk about it. I do recall that they got extended liberty that weekend.Wonderful experience!

BTW - Get there early and sit high in the bleachers by the window. It helps!

A special hello to my friend Weski.

The thing about the water.... take your own. The machines will be completely empty & GODS SAKE its hot in that gym. I'm with pakpmom. Beat Retreat is a DO NOT miss event.

Spunkymac, the gym is "tradition" because KP folks can TAKE IT. We'reTOUGH. We're ROUGH. We've all thought the same thing at one time or another........ But at the end of the day, WOW it's awesome dispite the crowd's discomfort. I'd do it again 100 times over.

Well, I'll try to get their early and sit where the windows are and pray for a cold front! This Mom has nearly passed out in normal heat 'cause I've gotten used to the cool oregon coast climate so this is going to be a challenge. My son is in band company and has had to adjust to this hot and sticky climate AND no airconditioning so I'll tough it out even if I gotta be carried out on a stretcher afterwords! :yllol::eek:

Think I will take one of those silly fans with the spray that I used to send with my kids to camp!! How early should we get there?
