Becoming a JAG

“Taking Chance” too! Except he’s the lead.
Yes, indeed. He is the lead, but he plays it in such an understated way way that he’s almost the supporting player, with Chance (despite never being seen or heard) being the lead. He’s uncanny that wat.

(@Capt MJ, at what point do the Bacon references become so prolific that this thread gets merged with you-know-what? 🤔)

I agree completely!

We can only wait and watch to see if the way ahead intersects or remains asymptotic.

"Taking Chance" is the best other than Mystic River which was a great movie.

My client who is a lawyer has a son who went JAG after finishing Law School. Dont want to get into specific because it may identify him, but because he had passed the bar from a specific state, they kept him in that state. The problem was that he was working on minor law stuff like divorces and minor crimes. . In other words, legal issues he would see if he worked for any small law firm in the country. Anyway, his branch is somewhat downsizing and when his contract was up, they basically told him they didn't need him anymore. He is out after 4 years or so. While he enjoyed his time there, i don't think he was happy with what he was doing. My son's friend who is in AF OSI (think FBI) isn't exactly fighting Chinese agents either

Quite often being a JAG isn't as glamorous as in TV & movies. Few actual murder, treason or espionage cases. Or, in fact, trials at all for that matter. Lots of DUIs, spouse abuse, drunken fights, anything alcohol-related for that matter. Some AWOL-UA issues. Increasing sexual harassment stuff. Usually pleaded out, i.e no trial.

Not exactly confronting Colonel Jessup on the witness stand over Code Reds.

Kind of like the justice system in general.

If you're a lawyer & you want excitement, do divorce law. Never a dull moment. Stressful as hell though. And getting paid can sometimes be difficult. Plus those occasional threats of violence. Divorces can be war zones.

If you're a lawyer & you want money, do corporate law or tax law or estate law. Boring. Real boring. Like the first half of a John Grisham novel (before the murderous activity is uncovered). You get paid though.

Ambulance chasing ("trial law") can be profitable too. Check out Erin Brockovitch or A Civil Action.

To become a JAG, you may need transcripts of record (TOR), LSAT results, and letters of recommendation.
