Before we head out...

the only reason i said it could be a problem is that i was talking to someone that said that some squadrons do not allow phone usage for 4 digs during the week for a little while and to ensure this they might take the phone's battery and return it on week ends
however the iphone does not have a removable battery and that would mean that the whole thing would be taken
i'm not saying that i dont trust the upperclassmen but i know that stuff happens and things get misplaced or damaged sometimes and I wouldnt want to risk that with an iphone, when with any other phone you can buy a replacement battery, no biggie
and having an iphone, which is basically an ipod with the ability to call people would also be very tempting when it came to breaking the music rule since you can download the songs directly, i know other phones do that but i dont think it would be as easy as it is on an iphone and this could easily make it very tempting to break the no music rule
i am not a cadet so i could be completely wrong about this but it just seems not worth the risks

I have a blackberry storm and it has internet radio. You just type in an artist or song and it starts playing non-stop music in less than a minute so the iphone isn't so special music-wise. In terms of the battery, I have no idea.

I was wondering the same thing, but since i know that you cant have your phone during the week for a while and they take the battery out of it (which doesnt work with the iphone) i thought they might take the whole thing and i didnt want to risk it getting lost or something so i just got a new phone
I had the oldest version of the iphone and it was pretty badly damaged over the last couple of years thanks to several mishaps so i thought i might as well get a different phone
plus i hated that you cant forward messages, turn t9 off or get picture mail on the iphone. even though its really cool i would rather have a traditional phone and an ipod, the iphone is a bug

Sprint Palm Pre
Do It! :D

Yeah I hear different things everywhere I look. Never heard of squads taking phones up on week days though. Just sounds annoying..

Alot of squads will only let you have your cellphone on weekends until Prog.

y do you say lucky
that just means you get three more days of vacation than us
im not saying it is bad that we are going, but i have only 2 weeks of vacation so i wouldnt mind a couple of extra days

I've been done with school for over a month now. And I'm excited about R-Day. I wish I could leave now.

lol, I have barely a week of vacation before I head off to the USCGA! I would love to have two weeks but just like Finest, I am so psyched for my R-Day to come. Good luck to everyone!

Ive had 5 weeks!!! lol. Private school so we graduate in mid May! Its been good, but i see AmericasFinest perspective of just wanting to get out there. I've had all the vacation I need.....kinda lol!

As excited (and nervous) as I am to start BCT, I'm actually forcing myself to have fun and make the most of this time where I'm "free." I don't think rushing it is the best plan right now. I'd say it's a good time to be lazy, and enjoy the stress free enviroment of home. One week, and we won't have a chance.

100% absolutely positively agree! lol

And don't forget all the little things that you like, but take for granted. I.e. fill up on your favorite foods; it's going to be a while. (Especially Mom's home cooking). Don't forget to do so introspecting and look at where you've come from and what got you here. Parents, friends, teachers, desires, dreams, etc... Find that special place where you can put these things/people so you can always appreciate them. THEY will help get you through BCT and the academy in general. Some of you will feel that you are all alone because everything that was familiar to you is gone. If you find that place inside of you, they will always be there for you. And remember, there is approximately 1300 other people where you're going who are going to feel exactly the same way as you.

I guess what I'm saying is that for a year or more, most of you have been preparing PHYSICALLY for getting into the academy. Body, GPA, SAT/ACT, etc... Now it's time to prepare mentally. This is where summer seminar, CAP, Scouting, Boy's State, etc... is not going to help you. Remember where you came from; don't forget where you want to go; and you'll always know where you're at.

Best of luck; God Bless; Aim High. later... Mike....

CC, have you ever thought of writing a book? :thumb: Thanks for the (always) awesome advice. We might have to bother you for one more bit before we head off next week

Thats one of the best ideas Ive ever heard!:thumb::wink:

no really...definitely consider it!

I appreciate your appreciation. It really does mean a lot to me. But I've learn so much, not just from my military/life experiences; but also from each person who has every asked a question or sought information. When i use to frequent the "Other" military academy forum.... LOL!!!! I actually made a post that actually took the "Process experience" of 18 month; e.g. applying to summer seminar, to academy applications, writing assignments, cfa, nominations, etc... all the way to the day of GRADUATING BCT; and I posted it ALL in one post/thread. But being I don't visit the "Other" website any longer, I don't know whatever happened to it. I might; during the 5 weeks of peace when you all go off to BCT; (Peace for us; LOL!!!); try and go back to ALL my posts in this forum over the last application year and see if I can find a way to consolidate them. Not out of pride or arrogance; because I would want it to also have additional posts by other great contributors on this forum. e.g. Hornet, Pima, Bullet, JAM, and many others. I'd like to see a sticky of "Everything you ever wanted to know about applying to the academy but was afraid to ask".

But I definitely appreciate the words of kindness. The military/Air Force is very important and very special to me. This is part of the "FAMILY" that you will be CHOOSING to enter into. As a family, we're here for each other. Best to you all. Later... Mike....

1.) What type of razor should we use during first beast? Second best? (electric or manual or battery?)

Get this conversation back on track . I need an experienced user of an electric shaver.

I just bought a Braun shaver and it came with a charging/cleaning station. For the sake of not bringing a lot on I-Day, could I leave the base station and just take the razor and charging cord? If the cleans are necessary to the shaver working great, shouldn't be too much hassle to cary it also.

I have a Braun Series 3. I'm leaving the cleaning base at home, and bringing just the Razor and charger cord to BCT. I'll have my parents bring out the base on A-day or Parents Weekend. Make sure you bring the little brush that comes with it to clean the inside.
