I know becoming team captain is looked favorably and important, but sports at my high school will not allow anyone but seniors to be team captain, like the cross country team I'm on. The swim team, there is more than one team captain, which is all senior swimmers who lettered the previous year(s) and are on good standing with the coach. This may or may not sound weird, but they do this because very few people stick with swimming all four years due to how tough our coach is and the massive time commitment. For example the boys team this year had only one senior, despite having one of the bigger/biggest teams, so he was team captain. (He did do a very nice job though.) Girls team had three.
Is this bad? Should I do anything to compensate?
