Best and worst first duty assignments?

No I wouldn't be shock at all. But I would be shocked if teachers and administrator use that kind of language!

Then you would be shocked. And you would have also been shocked 10 years ago.

And you know how I know it's not too bad.... my mother repeated it when I told her, as a newly minted 4/c (let that sink in  ), what it meant.

Bore-ass is basically "wasting your cadre's time."

Instead of "Swab LITs, you're wasting my time." It was "Swab LITs, that was a bore-ass question." And that is from cadre not allowed to curse (cursing is actually against cadet regulations).

I've heard a couple teachers use a couple of words a few times, nothing major. It's not really that big of a deal.

I have also heard teachers use foul language in front of minors. But they were dealt with and most do not return. Using foul language with minors is no big deal REALLY! I have heard of college basketball coaches getting fired for foul language and belittling players!

Mom saying it to a 4 degree and an adults on SAF saying it to a minor are so different.

Thanks for the lesson on what bore - ??? stands for. All profane language mean something. I am sure all type of language is used with adults, but we need to be careful about how we communicate with minors. I am more than positive LITS could have come up with something more clever and profound to say to that young person!

And FUBAR and SNAFU are also terms that they'll hear. By the way, a "FAG" is a cigarette in England.

Lighten up Frances. You're automatically "ASSuming" that because the word "ASS" is in the word, that it's "PROFANITY". It's not. Times change. Watch a modern movie on tv and see what words they BLEEP OUT and which ones they DON'T. "Ass" is not a word that is bleaped out. The funny thing is; the word "Hole" is bleaped out if the 2 are said together one after the other.

There's a lot of things "YOU" might think are profane. That doesn't mean they are. This is the border line of "Political Correctness". If I called someone a Dumb-Ass, that would be rude, insensitive, inpolite, and even mean. But it doesn't mean it's necessarily "Profanity". Well, welcome to the year 2013. 30 years ago we commonly heard people say "Gosh Darn it"; "Ah Heck", and other terms that have CHANGED since then. Sorry, but that's part of social evolution.

Oh for the love.

Get off your cross, there's a recession on and wood is scarce. I certainly would hope you have better things to do with your time than wring your hands over how horribly this young man has been damaged by being told to act like an adult and formulate meaningful questions.

Move. On.

Belittling players/students and cursing at them opposed to saying a bad word in passing are two very different things. I've never heard a teacher say, "F you, Johnny", that would be bad, yeah, but considering we're talking about high school students and not elementary school kids, I think it's safe to say 14+ teens know what these words mean and wouldn't go tell the principal if they heard their teacher say an occasional "damn" now and again. It's not like teenagers are impressionable little 5 year olds who will repeat everything they hear.

I was going to chime in, but this summed it up perfectly.

Well said.:thumb:

Almost everyone here works, some in the military, some not.

Your questions are annoying because the people who are taking the time out of their day to answer questions told you to be more specific and instead of posing more specific questions, you wanted to throw stones.

That's fine, but the more you do that, the more people here will begin to ignore your posts, annoying or not. that's independent of the questions you raise having already been answered on SAF, and that most of your questions can be found using...... Google, or for my Microsoft hockey teammate, Bing.

No one get's paid to answer the questions of a kids traveling the country with his parents. So their time should be respected. Respectable and repulsive officers will both be turned off.

If you ask questions that we called "bore-ass" at CGA, well, you'll stop getting answers.
If I wanted to ask you a question specifically, I would have PM'd you. It was an open question to anyone willing to share their view. None of the admission personnel from the different SAs I've visited have been as condescending as you are. I believe that your sense of self-importance and impatience is not what I've seen in the current cadets and alumni of your school of which I have spent a full day touring last week. I've spent a good hour having a dialogue with Capt.Kurt Colella-the current dean of your school and many active officers and I can say that none of them are as abrasive and annoying as you. You don't have to respond to any of my queries. There are more willing and able people that can do that. Thank you very much.

I rest my case.

I can only hope you used better judgement with mom and dad around.

And yes, I know Capt. Colella (Ret.). He was an engineering professor when I was a cadet.

Here is a life lesson for you.

You have been on an admissions tour. During this phase (called recruitment), it is their job to smile at any question asked. They are trying to meet their mission. Try asking the same question the day you are under contract and see what the answer is...

Hint, that is no longer the recruitment phase and now they have more important questions to answer than that. I think you might hear that term LITS used to describe your question at that point in time...

Couldn't agree more.

I'm sure Mike Rice was just a peach of a guy when he sat in the livingroom of a high school student when he was trying to recruit them for the basketball team at Rutgers.

I'm sure if you asked a question of Capt. Colella and he asked you to be more specific, your response would have been much different then you gave on this board.

This has been just a very polite taste of what you'll be in for should you be lucky enough to attend any of the SA's, let alone actually joining the military.

Just curious....is "Queries" the new word of the day?

I would add that perhaps some general questions are more appropriate to a face to face conversation when one can wax profoundly and provide anecdotes and reminiscences to support their position, than asking them on a forum.

Jeez. I go offline to play a round of golf and an entire thread blows up!

a round of golf was better than this thread...

I understand that the graduating class of the different SAs already know their first duty assignments/billets. It is also common practice to put in one's top three choices.

What determines who gets what they want versus the ones who get the opposite?

Can current 1st class cadets of the class of 2013, active or retired servicemen/women share what are the most sought after assignments and the least requested. Thanks.

Both questions are good ones and of some concern to current third year cadets at the SAs, SMCs and ROTC branches. I'm fairly certain though that it's not at the top of the list of most cadets, who know they will go wherever they're sent and deal with it ("Where are the condos?").

Unfortunately, the questions were overshadowed by the "What's the Best - What's the Worst" title of the thread, a phrase guaranteed to raise hackles when posed about any subject here.

Two more questions:
1) Why did LITS change his avatar?
2) What's a hackle?

(Kinnem, I had the best of both worlds - shanking and slicing at the driving range then perusing this thread)

1. I didn't like the coloring of the other one, and this one is basic enough for me to appreciate. That over avatar was from a photo I took of a page in a 1908 "Tide Rips" (the CGA yearbook) from the "School of Instruction Revenue Cutter Service." I love it, it just didn't translate well as an avatar.
2. It's the noise a computer-literate witch makes.
