Best Boots for basic??

Probably the most popular ones are the Coyote Brown Nike’s. My DS said they are lightweight and very comfortable. Break in earl, before getting to BCT. He used the issued pair (he still bought them) while in Jack’s since he felt they were a bit more heavy duty.

Majority of people would probably recommend the lightweight Nike boots, but I personally found the Nike boots uncomfortable (Doesn't help that I have wide feet). The Oakley SI Light Assault 2 are amazing. I have put them through a lot of crap, and they are holding strong. Super comfortable and I occasionally use them for running. Did not take long to break in either.

As in basic training? If so, aren't you issued a uniform and have to use those boots???

Nope the academy recommends you actually by other boots. In the military you can buy other uniform items that look the same but fit differently. For example a belt. In Jrotc ( not the same as military I know) I was issued a hard blue belt with a sliver buckle. Instead of wearing that I went and got a blue belt with a buckle that was flexable as I knew I would gain weight or increase in size. You can buy more comfortable uniform gear. They have to issue standard gear for those who can't afford it, that does not mean you have to wear it.

Okay.

As a prior, I just used whatever the hell they gave me. In the Army, I got my combat boots and broke them in (actually loved their fit after a few months). At NAPS, I took the Navy seaman uniform as issued. And at the USNA, I took whatever they handed me on i-day.

Just never heard of buying your own! (Dates my service time obviously)!

Understandable. They probably had fewer options back then too. I'm sure there are items that are issued that we have to wear even if we want to but a different kind (like a gas mask for example)

Don't even try to understand this. Just wait for the many discussions about what underwear and socks to equip your new cadet with.
It is truly mind-boggling to me as every single member of my class reported in and were issued everything that we wore plebe summer
and that is right down to the heavy duty "KEDS" sneakers which were what we wore, not running shoes optimized for our strides or whatever.
It was all very startlingly UNIFORM. . .

I wear a 9 in women’s shoes. Any idea into what size the Nike and Oakley boots would be?

My son did the same thing. Some Doolies gave him a hard time because he wore the issued boots at Jack's. They weren't laughing when their favorite boots were trashed, and they had to finish BCT in their issued boots.
I will add, he regretted not getting the Oakley boots and bought a pair over break. I just asked him how he likes the Oakleys and he said, "Much better than my Nikes".

It isn't even that old of a "back in my day"! I am a 2012 grad and we had issued boots and issued "running shoes" that in my opinion belonged in a dumpster. TERRIBLE fit on my feet. I had bigger blisters from my running shoes than from my boots!

As for what boots - I recommend something light - there are some seriously comfy options out there. I wear Danners - not sure which one but they are like tennis shoes. So light and comfy.

The Oakleys run just a tad large, and their website says to go down 1.5 sizes for women. If you have thin feet, I would just go down 2 sizes to a 7 and see if that works for you. Nike I would just go down 1.5

If you're looking for a Nike-style boot, I can't recommend the Danner Tachyon enough. I used to wear a pair before they cracked down on safety toes here (USCGA), and they were incredibly comfortable and, in my opinion, much more durable than the Nike's. Danner makes a good product.

Last year my DS took the Nike's with him on I-Day and used his issue pair for Jack's and then 2nd semester he switched to Danners as his Nike's were already worn on the sole. This year with the change to OCP when I asked him which one he said Danner and did not even have to think about it. Still has the same pair and he says when it is time he will get another pair just like them.
