Hey everyone I am sure this question has been asked before but all I could find is who are the best pilots in the US armed services. But my question is in an ROTC program which service gives you the best chance to fly AFROTC, NROTC, or ROTC. My guess is navy because I have heard the last few years everyone who was medically qualified got to fly. Is it hard in AFROTC since everyone joins to be a pilot? By the way my vote is Marine pilots:thumb:

No service can give you a sure thing. The closest you'll get will be the Marines, with their flying contract program. But in the Marines, you'll most likely be flying helos.

Selection rates change every year as the demand for pilots in the service changes. You should probably just go for a service that offers the lifestyle, aircraft types, etc. that you're interested in. It will be competitive everywhere from what I hear.

If theres any interest in AF flying, there are some great sites out there

Also, not everyone in AFROTC wants to fly. I dont

Hahah thanks man for the links, and advise. Sorry I didn't mean to generalize the Air Force into all Pilot want to be's, just the Air Force controls the skies so I know a good amount of people who want to fly always think Air Force first:biggrin:

Don't forget that the Army has more airframes than anyone else.

Maybe the question could be better answered if you tell us whether you want to pilot of a fixed wing or a helicopter.

Fixed wing than my bet would be the AF, helo's Marines or Army...either the Navy. B4 anyone shoots me down I know the AF has helo's, but it is not a large amount.

You also need to ask yourself what you want to do if you don't become a pilot. You never know what could happen 4 yrs down the road, the pipeline could closed down for UPT! If you won't be happy in that branch than don't go through their ROTC program. Realize one day down the line every officer does take a staff job, you won't just fly for your entire career

ROTC

To be honest I am not to sure if I would rather fly Helos or fixed wing air craft. I am torn because a part of me wants to be that fighter pilot hitting huge Gs, while the other part of me wants to be in more contact with the ground troops and a little bit more in the action. So to be honest I am not sure I am signed up for Army ROTC I am just worried because I heard only 20 rotc cadets got to fly last year also because unlike the navy and air force they aren't as accepting of PRK or any eye surgery for that matter.

Than the question remains will you be happier on the ground with the troops in the Army or flying?

Before you answer realize that nothing is a guarantee...even if you were accepted for a flying slot, you may injure yourself and take you out of the running. Something as simple as injuring your back playing tag football could cause you to lose the slot.

Choose the service you want and go from there
