Mrs. DomerDad and I are heading to Annapolis this week to drop DD off for her CVW. There is a schedule of activities this Friday for parents from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm with a break for lunch between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Lunch isn't provided for the parents, so Mrs. DomerDad and I need to find a place to eat. Should we stay on the Yard or find a place in town?

Suggestions for where to eat would be greatly appreciated.

Go into town or nearby. Carrol’s Creek in Eastport has fantastic seafood in a casual setting on the water. Preserve in DT is a bit more upscale but worth it. Cantler’s across the Severn has terrific seafood of the rustic variety — think cracking crabs on butcher paper with a mallet. Iron Rooster is a USNA favorite with simple but well-prepared fare and a certain emphasis on bacon.

The food inside the SA was pretty decent, i cant remwmber the name of it.

I have not updated this thread in a while (I keep waiting for COVID fall out to stop) - but start here. So many great places.

On the Yard itself, you can go to The Club, which I think is open to all for lunch. Or the classic Drydock Grill in Dahlgren Hall - cold and hot sandwiches, pizza, salads, etc. If you’re tired of slogging around uneven brick sidewalks, rest up here.

Or, walk out the walk gates at Gate 1, go to the Iron Rooster, a favorite of many here and enjoy a varied menu and - yes - split a house-made pop tart.

There are great walkable places up and down Main St., Market House area, Maryland Ave., Church Circle. Great places for crab cakes and raw bar. Chick and Ruth’s Delly, an Annapolis institution.

You’ll get a lot of great suggestions.

I am also partial to the Severn Inn across the bridge. It’s a great place with an amazing view of the Yard. Iron Rooster is amazing, the Big Cheese has amazing sandwich fare or fare to create your own cold cut and cheese plate for a shared bottle of wine after the CVW parent activities.
There is a pub near the Rooster that I also enjoyed. Can’t recall the name. I’m jealous, I’ve been once since DS was appointed. Loved my visit. Take everyone’s advice. Good walking shoes. Enjoy!

I second Cantler's however it is a drive and might be a bit tight for time. I always liked Fox's Den on Main Street; about 1/2 way to Church Circle on the left.

Somewhere there is a thread on "Annapolis resturants/where to eat" - lot of good resturant info.....

If you are looking to take some goodies home ( like baked good etc ), then look for Pennsylvania Dutch farmers market. About 15 minutes drive from the yard. For some folks on the forum ( including me), it is a pilgrimage we make every visit.

Last weekend, we were short on time so I suggested to DW that we skip our traditional breakfast at the Amish Market. She absolutely, positively, unequivocally would not have it. No way, no how! So off to the Amish Marker we went.

Donuts, check. Pretzel dogs, check. Ordered a half-dozen pretzels and was told the current batch had been sitting a while (like what, five minutes?) so did I mind waiting a few minutes for fresh ones? No, not at all. Worth the wait. So much for being short on time.

I posted it ^^^
Need to update it, been on my To Do far too long.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I think I'm going to gain a few pounds on this trip! DD and I ate at Miss Shirley's (mentioned in @Capt MJ post) over the summer when we visited. The food there was amazing, but a little farther than I care to walk.

A must do on your first visit to Naptown
Went back there for the first time in 40 years when DS was on a recruiting trip last week. Inside looked the same but I didn't remember them being on Main Street. Were they originally on Maryland Ave. closer to the Capital in the olden days?

Just a heads up…we were on the yard several times in the fall and the Drydock Grill was closed every time due to staffing issues. I would plan to go into DTA for lunch. So many great options!!

Definitely Chick and Ruth's. I am also a fan (regular) at Cafe Normandie (half price wine bottles on Monday and Wednesday if that is your thing). Over in Eastport, I would say Carrol's Creek or O'Leary's. If you want a good steak there is Lewnes (pricey). For an old school, Maryland style meal (the ones I grew up on) check out the Edgewater Restaurant on Mayo Road in Edgewater. Oh, there is always Hero's Pub.

There are so many options and such little time! Enjoy our town!!!

As a breakfast lover, I must say that Chick & Ruth's Delly is one of my favorites. Their corned beef hash is good.

As a lover of Cuban sandwiches, O'Brien's Oyster Bar & Seafood Tavern (I know, it makes no sense) makes a great one, with tater tots on the side.

I'm a sucker for corned beef hash.

If you want something with walking distance, consider the Federal House or Dock Street Bar & Grill. Both right outside Gate 1. The crab chowder at Dock Street may be the best I've ever had.
