Best price for Sword

$450 at the Mid Store. $700 at Quantico. Any other options or prices out there?
Navy sword or Marine?
Marines are required to have those as an O-1. Navy officers are not required to have a sword until the rank of LCDR, and will probably not need to actually wear one for a full dress occasion until then, if even then. They can always borrow one if they are asked to be in a wedding arch. They are near-impossible to travel with.

I wore my sword (actually DH’s), just 5 times in my career, my own changes of command and once when I was in charge of a formation at an event.

If you do buy one, don’t forget to buy the gold “rigging” that gets wrapped around the handle and the sword belt.
Now, the sword belt comes in waist sizes. so that can probably be deferred for years.

If we are talking about a Mameluke, Weyersburg, Kirschbaum and Co. is what the Marine Shop (at Quantico) sells for $630 and they are the finest quality I have ever seen.

With that said, I don't have one. Mine was chosen from a "lesser brand". ;)

DD is keeping it easy and going with the Mameluke sword that comes with the USMC O-1 starter pack (uniforms, sword, etc.). Surely not the cheapest option, but likely the easiest. With all the end-of-year activities, path of lease resistance seems wise

Confirmed it’s a Navy sword. And I’m asking for a friend (for real!!). She will be getting one, not interested in borrowing. But tying to help her find the best price ⚔️ 🗡

A word to the wise. Swords come in SIZES according to the wearer's height.
My (senior enlisted) dad did not know this and bought one that was WAY to long for me. Much mirth ensued and no, he was not able to return/exchange it as he'd bought it overseas.

Key point! I’ve seen some pretty hilarious mismatches over the years.

So what I learned today: there are different swords for Marine and Navy, and CaptMJ and her DH are the same height 😬😬

As a plebe, DD won an Army-Navy Game bet with an upperclassman. So she got to be “company commander” for a noon formation, complete with a sword that was way too big for her. The video of her practicing in her room, with her roommates as witnesses, is comical.

I wish we had ready access to video back in the 80's -- my favorite photo from my wedding is still picture of one of my ushers teaching my Dad how to do the Sword Manual of Arms late in the evening (well after the bride and groom departed, and I am sure there was alot of drinking at the after party --swords and alcohol are not a good mix!)

This thread made me dig out my sword -- haven't seen it for years and have no idea where the belt is. (I am sure they belt has shrunk a lot since its been stored away ..just like my old flight gear). I actually have two swords...Some family friend gave me an old hand me down at graduation, but my parents also bought me one as a graduation present ..suitably engraved etc. The old one lived under our bed for home defense long ago; I can probably count on one hand the number of times its been out of its case --all for weddings.

On the topic of swords -- one pro tip: If you use a sword to cut your wedding cake, make sure the scabbard is stashed far away from the cake table to avoid having some well meaning person trying to sheath the sword when covered by cake and frosting...it is impossible to clean the scabbard after that happens. (And no, that is not personal experience -- someone told me that before my wedding !)

Now to respond to the OP -- looks like you can buy them online for reasonable prices.

My DS knocked off his cover with his (shared Unit) sword in the AMI inspection for JROTC. He kept right on going, as his dad and I had heart attacks watching from the bleachers. 😬😳 Guess it was better his own cover than the Area Manager’s!
