BGO and CFA question

My DD has completed the BGO interview on 12/28 and the CFA on 1/5. When should she expect those to be reflected in the portal? The CFA notification seems time critical in case for some reason she needs to take it again.

You’ve barely given the BGO two weeks to submit their report, and not even one week for CFA results to be confirmed. Remember that yours is not the only candidate the BGO interviewed (not to mention they usually have a full-time job and other responsibilities). And remember that all organizations are shorthanded and are scrambling to keep up with simple paperwork. Welcome to the military, where “hurry up and wait” is gospel. Give it all a couple more weeks, and if still no portal action, then follow up respectfully and courteously. Not you, though. Your DD, the candidate.

Thank you for your reply.

She was hesitant to reach out to anyone so soon but was curious as to when it would be appropriate to inquire.

Your daughter can always jump on the Admissions live chat, candidate number in hand, with any questions, including status of something that might be in the system but not yet reflected in the candidate-facing portal. Easily found on the Admissions page, click the chat bubble, and it will either be live or reveal upcoming live chats.

The important thing is your daughter has done these things before the deadline and her BGO knows it. There is no reason to think a door would close on her. As noted, she can easily check, and if not there yet, choose a day a week down the road to check again. Then if she wants to drop a note to BGO…

There are enormous amounts of data pouring into Admissions - final applications, BGO interviews, academic data, nominations, etc.

As a general note, this is a great illustration and very helpful for new readers here getting ready to apply for USNA for ‘27 about knocking out elements of the application months before the deadline, to reduce pre-deadline stress. The CFA requirements are right on usna.edu, there are plenty of YouTube videos and websites on CFA prep, a good selection of options as to allowed CFA administrators. Any next -cycle applicants can be working on CFA element prep right now, researching venues and potential administrators, ready to execute the CFA with a comfortably strong score above the median, as soon as they are an official candidate in the summer. That may not be possible for some for a variety of reasons or those late to realizing they want to apply to USNA.

I am guessing USNA admissions is getting back into full swing tomorrow. Remember that they were on leave just like Mids and the yard was closed from snow a few days. I always told my candidates when to expect the BGO upload, some do and some don’t. Some like to wait until they interview everyone. Maybe the BGO had PTO with the holidays, maybe the family or them got sick, maybe work has a crazy year end close. I always wrote mine then slept on it a few days and then revisited. General rule of thumb is 30 days then follow up. The BGO will be getting hounded by the regional coordinator to get things uploaded ASAP. Not sure if admissions has to do anything for the CFA to upload, but if it does, it might take awhile. They will be slammed as it’s the last month and they have tons of data coming in.

As an add, I personally would double check with the CFA administrator that they sent it in, via the link. As in, confirm that their email/link was accepted…not booted back for some reason.

I *believe* the CFA link does have a limited time life. Not positive about that. But a follow up firstly, with whomever administered the CFA, that all was smooth and proper on their end, might be a good idea too.

It is early. As already stated. The CFA has a hard deadline, under your control. The BGO interview isn’t part of of the ‘your control’ hard deadline.
