BGO change after interview set up

Hi Everyone,
My DS has been corresponding and talking with his BGO officer for the past 6 months - he contacted the officer even before becoming an official candidate and the officer has been very kind in answering questions by phone and by email. When my DS became an official candidate it was great to see that familiar BGO name on his application portal, and he set up an interview. However, days before the interview, the BGO name on the application portal changed. My son contacted his admissions officer to find out what to do, and she said to keep her posted about what happened - but didn't seem to be allowed to do anything about it. My son went ahead with the interview last week and all went well - the BGO said they would contact some people about getting back on the admissions portal in order to submit the interview results. However, we just heard from the original BGO officer that they were reassigned elsewhere and my DS needs to completely start over with the new BGO officer. That was just this week. Is that common? I'm surprised that the interview by the original BGO officer can't be submitted still given that everything was done based on the earlier application portal BGO information. My DS will of course do all that is required and contact the new BGO. I haven't found anything on the boards here about this happening to anyone else, so wanted to see if it seemed unusual? Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Well, if they were reassigning folks, and it certainly occurs from time to time, then this is the time of year to do it. Sounds like your DS got caught up in the change because he's ahead of most in the process. I can only guess why the new BGO would need to do the interview, and I have several, but won't go into them here since they're just conjecture.

Okay, that makes me feel better knowing that reassignments do happen and it's likely just a timing factor. And he is being positive about it and saying that he's glad he got to "have a full practice interview first" before doing his next BGO interview! Gotta love that perspective.

Yes. It happens for a variety of reasons. BGO assignment is managed by the Area Coordinator, not USNA Admissions. That being said, the AC can also reassign your son to the original BGO if the BGO requests.

Agree. BGOs are often reassigned, generally to reduce workload on those who are swamped or to accommodate new BGOs who enter the program. If there is a long-standing relationship, the BGO can ask to keep working with your DS. However, if your DS has the new one, it's not a big deal. I almost never have met with my candidates before the interview and that's not a big deal.
