Figured I'd share this... I went to a notary to get a notarized photocopy of my son's birth certificate to satisfy the proof of US citizenship requirement. PA law does not allow a photocopy of a birth certificate to be notarized. They can notarize a photocopy of a passport, but the passport must be issued less than 2 years. While I trust USNA, I do not trust the USPS and was hesitant on my son mailing his original birth certificate. So I just ordered a certified copy from PA over the phone, and was told it could take up to 12 weeks! It's not likely to take that long, but it could. Again, just figured I'd pass this along.

You could go to the courthouse and do it in person.
Apparently not in PA. I was born in NJ and was able to go to the county courthouse for my duplicate years ago. PA handles it at the state level. For my son's certificate, the closest facility is 90 mins away. It is what it is. Just letting people know.

Guess since I live near Harrisburg I did it easily. Sorry for your hassles.

If I had known, I would have done it last week while at the outdoor show!

The biggest Ah-haaaa was getting DS TO Annapolis on IDAY for these very reasons. Soooo many little things to tend to! Little roadblocks. Just plug and chug!! There will be challenges. And once they go in those Alumni Hall doors?? What a relief. The rest of the stuff is alllll on them.

I got in the safe and handed my DS his birth certificate, and he mailed it to USNA.
He got it back about a week later, and I put it back in the safe.
Not saying I didn't feel weird about him sending it through the mail. :)
