Hey all, I was boarded the first selection board and was slotted for a Ike Skelton ECP, and I turned it down. Does that mean my application is out of the running for this selection round until the third one in March, or am I just supposed to wait for the results of this selection board?

I don't see why you wouldn't be considered for the board that just met.

I was boarded at the first selection board and received the ECP offer and turned it down as well so I'm in the exact same position @junlee58. You will be considered by this board and the next if you don't win anything this time around.

I also turned down the Ike Skelton. Does being offered one mean I was boarded pretty high? Or not necessarily? I was wondering if being one of the 100 offered this scholarship means that I have a good shot on future rounds. Or maybe it means I'm just not high enough for a 3 or 4 year. I only applied to schools with a corps of cadets or large ROTC programs.

I mean I'm not the best person to ask but I do know that means you were in the next 100 on the OML for round one so I'd say you have a decent chance ...

I am by no means an authority on this, but I have reviewed the ECP offer and the way I understand it, if you were offered ECP then that was the ONLY scholarship offer you will be given. If you do not accept it, you will NOT be offered anything else on the next Boards. Your only opportunity will be once you get on campus and compete for those scholarships, if there are any left.

DS is in the same category, boarded first round and turned down the Ike Skelton ECP. He received a notice on the AROTC site over the weekend that the board had convened again and to look for results within two weeks (February 11).

SoFloDad - I am not sure you fully read the threads you linked. The Wentworth facebook page indicated no further offers would occur - but this is likely questionable recruiting practices by Wentworth. The bolded part of your post is not correct per the Q&A. The Q&A letter that the Ike Skelton offers included indicate if the Ike is declined the applicant will continue to compete in subsequent boards.

"Q1. Does this scholarship offer mean I will not get another offer after the upcoming scholarship boards?
A1. If you accept this offer then you will no longer compete for a 4 year scholarship. If you decline the offer then you will continue to compete until all boards have been concluded. You may or may not get another scholarship offer in our subsequent boards."

Good luck to junlee58, ah99, eljay60, cadetsquad, their dd/ds, and others that were impacted by this CC/JMC attempt to fill the 22 Ike Skelton slots per JMC.

I am amazed that these SMC's and JMC's get these funding and commissioning component requirements into the US Code.

I don't understand your comment would you explain further why you are amazed and how they were impacted by the schools trying to fill the ECP at the schools. Is there something wrong with the Ecp program? Just questions not looking to fight just trying to educate myself.

There is nothing wrong with the ECP program if you understand the Army commitment to you and your obligation that results. When the need was high for AD Officers, ECP officers could get their NG/Reserve commitment revoked allowing them to compete for AD. In recent years however, the ECP commitment requires NG/Reserve service with no/limited options for AD. A HS senior should not be limited to NG/Reserves without fully understanding the options - ECP essentially takes AD off the table as an option.

This is the first year I have observed the National Scholarship process to offer Ike Skelton ECP scholarships and Wentworth misrepresented the scholarship offer indicating the recipients would not be considered for subsequent 3/4 year national scholarships. However, the letter that accompanied the offer to applicants indicated they could decline the Ike Skelton and be considered by the second and third board for a 3/4 year national scholarship.

From the linked threads I found Wentworth's (a JMC) facebook page that clearly attempted to get Ike Skelton scholarship 'offerees' to believe no further offers would be made from subsequent boards.

If you read the linked threads - AR145-1 requires each JMC to contract 22 Ike Skelton recipients - this is likely in US Code Title 10 somewhere. It is a way to fund these JMC's with these scholarships. The SMC's too have successfully kept their ROTC scholarship numbers high (govt $$$) by law in US Code Title 10 requiring all SMC ROTC graduates to be granted AD if requested and with PMS recommendation rather than competing in the national accessions process.

The ECP program provides training for two years prior to the reserve commission. When they transfer to their university they do not participate in ROTC, only with their Reserve/NG unit. As a prior service officer, it is not a program I would encourage my children to participate. The options and preparation are more expansive in a prior service to ROTC/SA, four year ROTC, or Academy program.

Thank you for the correction. It was new to me, and what I found seemed confusing. I'm glad there are others here who know better!
