body composition check question

My son received a body composition check added to his USAFA portal. He had his Dodmerb at the beginning of August for a different SA. He has gained weight since then because he is a starting Offensive Lineman on a successful football team.

It says that it needs to be completed in 2 weeks. Realistically, there is no way he can drop weight in 2 weeks. Is his application going to be closed because of this? Do they make exceptions?

Thank you.

Interestingly enough, my DS received the same, and he is tall and thin but all muscle. We were confused as to why USAFA would be concerned when he has Qualified DobMerb and passed CFA. Maybe it's just something USAFA has added to try to qualify candidates? I couldn't find much in past files of others going through this. Does anyone have any input?

They do have parameters (both high and low so that explains the two different body types mentioned so far) and my youngest DS was asked to provide this two years ago. It was no hindrance to his appointment and clearly doesn't automatically DQ a candidate.

One of the experts on the forum is @GoCubbies. He wrote in a past comment, "From a medical standpoint, weight (too much or too little) is an issue only if you have a medical condition that’s causing it."

As he noted, and I agree . . . "If DoDMERB DQ’ed applicants just for being thick and big, then none of the service academies would have any lineman."

He may add more to my comments. The last point I took from him was, "While you do have to meet height/weight requirements as a cadet/mid, this is administrative in nature and nothing to do with the medical side (again, so long as a medical condition is not the underlying problem)."

I hope this info helps.

They can be qualified by DODMERB and be above the weight limit. The academy requires that they either be within the weight limit, or their body fat percentage has to be within limits. If it’s not, they will need to have a waiver to be fully qualified. The form they received is to do a tape test to test their body fat percentage. My son was over weight, but passed the tape test. He has a muscular build.
