Good morning,

I wanted to start a thread (if there is already a thread I apologize!) on books about West Point, leadership, the US Army or anything that could be helpful to students going to CBT this summer.

Gates of Fire- Steven Pressfield is a great one
Diary of a West Point Cadet- Preston Pysh
Team of Teams-McChrystal
The Unforgiving Minute- Craig Mullaney
Absolutely American- David Lipsky

Just to name a few!
Feel free to add or comment

Thank you!

I read "Duty First: West Point and the Making of American Leaders" by Ed Ruggero. Really sold me on SAs when I was young(er).

Brothers Forever --The Enduring Bond between a Marine and a Navy Seal that Transcended Their Ultimate Sacrifice by Tom Sileo and Colonel Tom Manion

Absolutely American- David Lipsky - is very good. I know one of the cadets that is highlighted in the book. It's a very good read.

Relating Particularly to Female Cadets:
Gray Girl-Susan I Spieth (fiction, but author is a graduate)
Tough as Nails-Gail O'Sullivan Dwyer (memoir)
Battle Dress-Amy Efaw (fiction, but author is also a graduate)

Not really for already appointed candidates, but still a good book if a little outdated:
The West Point Candidate Book-Sue Ross

Finally, not related to Army, but one of my all-time favorite books that I still think about when I consider why I want to attend West Point: The Heart and the Fist: the education of a humanitarian the making of a Navy SEAL by Eric Greitens

I concur with suggesting Absolutely American...it certainly gives you an idea of what to expect, although many things have changed. My favorite for parents is The Mom's Guide to Surviving West Point.

Serve to Lead, Lincolns Leadership and my husbands leadership style us treat others like you want to be treated. It has worked well so far!
